Venzuela touts climate change policy, overlooks US superiority in forestland

Site in Bear Creek Educational Forest in Florida. [Photo Div. of Forestry, State of Florida]One of the big schemes in the climate change movement is to reward countries that have large amounts of forestland. The thinking goes that industrialized countries like the U.S. should pay these so-called developing nations to offset the carbon our society emits.

Never mind the Somalis who chop down trees for the black market in charcoal or the nomads in primitive countries who overgraze. Never mind the damage wrought by civil warfare or complete lack of regulation in some countries. And never mind the disasters caused in some large developing nations after questionable agricultural practices were mandated by their governments. But what we can't 'nevermind' is the US superiority in forestland.

Venezuela has hopped onto the climate change wagon, and we can thank Democrat Al Gore, former vice-president and failed presidential contender, for setting us up to take a hit from countries that do not wish us well.

A press release from Venezuela summed up the country’s policy ahead of the Green Festival in Washington. On a climate change policy page at Venezuela’s US embassy, there is the following statement: “In the report, Venezuela, as well as the ALBA countries, shared their visions on the matter, stating that developed countries must acknowledge their historic responsibilities as major emitters of greenhouse gases. It also encouraged them to make binding commitments of reducing emissions to a level that would bring the concentrations of greenhouse gases back to 300 ppm, thus limiting the increase in global average temperature to well below 1.5 °C.”

Venezuela proudly also points out the following: “Venezuela boasts 47.7 million hectares of a wide variety of forests…” One can just imagine the totalitarian government’s enthusiasm for the potential to sell capitalistic nations like the U.S. carbon offsets.

But as The US Report has often pointed out, the U.S. should be doing the selling of those permits, with heavy emphasis on the South, an area that is abundant in forestland and wetlands. The US Forest Service states. “In 1997, 302 million hectares—or 33 percent of the total land area of the United States—was in forest land. Today’s forest land area amounts to about 70 percent of the area that was forested in 1630.” That forestland has remained stable.

The whole climate change movement is about redistributing wealth from us to third world countries and to financiers who stand to benefit. Democrats have promoted the idea of manmade global warming so successfully the ideology has become a weapon of choice abroad and it also has eroded the US image abroad.

Osama bin Laden has reportedly embraced climate change as a means of rallying his terrorist troops. The master terrorist seems to forget the substantial climate change he implemented when his followers slaughtered more than 3,000 Americans and created a hazardous area in one of the nation’s largest cities. It’s all about the dollar for bin Laden. Al Jazeera said, “In the new recording, bin Laden said: ‘Noam Chomsky [the US academic and political commentator] was correct when he compared the US policies to those of the Mafia. They are the true terrorists and therefore we should refrain from dealing in the US dollar and should try to get rid of this currency as early as possible.’”

Government officials finally realized their global warming theory was full of holes and now they call it climate change.

As I’ve often said, climate change has been around since Earth was created. Otherwise we’d be dodging dinosaurs instead of possums on rural Florida roads at night.

Democrats embraced the theory of global warming so fervently the Party members, with a supermajority in the House of Representatives, passed a Cap and Trade bill that would have further blighted our economy and as President Barack Obama promised, would have sent electricity bills “skyrocketing.”

Chalk climate change rhetoric up to another in a long line of Democrat political maneuvers that have weakened the US economy, already caused utility bills to increase and helped to contract our jobs market.

Democrats apparently are making Venezuela’s leaders happy and bin Laden as well with their climate change/formerly global warming/formerly Little Ice Age alarmism. Democrats, in my opinion, love catering to foreign interests at the expense of the US populace. (Analysis by Kay B. Day/Oct. 18, 2010)
