Daily Caller: Liberal journolisters wanted Fox News shut down
Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 12:55AM There’s been gossip about media giving big love to Democrats since 2008. But The Daily Caller’s expose on a ‘Journolist’, a listserv of several hundred journalists, professors and political junkies, reveals a situation far worse than many of us believed possible. Their behavior wasn't just shameful, it was juvenile.
TDC broke stories on Tuesday and Wednesday about collaboration so finely tuned it seemed the most vocal on the list were acting as campaign volunteers.
What’s very troubling is the visceral hatred these people have for the American people—the contents of emails TDC published give the impression of a virtual propaganda machine reliant on group think and far left ideology.
This group would be right at home in Iran or Venezuela where everyone writes the same narrative and schmoozes with politicos for (what else?) personal gain.
Journolist members allegedly colluded to deliberately divert attention from the story of President Barack Obama’s longtime pastor and maestro of hate speech, Jeremiah Wright.
One National Public Radio employee allegedly claimed particular hatred for Rush Limbaugh, enough hatred that she could “gleefully” watch him die. Others, including an academic, allegedly wanted the FCC to yank Fox News’ license when it came up for renewal.
TDC reported that one member talked about people who attended townhalls, likening them to Brownshirts.
You wonder what kind of misery you’d be in if you had to work around these people. You'd spend half your time grabbing them by the shoulders and asking, "Are you well?"
If all these leftwing zealots were just writing political commentary for a content mill, the manipulation of thought might not be so troubling. But some of these people wrote news content. Others teach in universities and I’m betting in those classes, independent thinking is much maligned. Still others work for top media brands that sell themselves as news media rather than political advocacy groups. There was no interest, however, in investigating anything. The focus appeared to be getting Obama elected.
TDC’s expose shows the glaring lack of any sense of ethical standards in people who were determined to manipulate and hoodwink the public they supposedly provide a service to.
The email exchanges, worded in styles characteristic of people composing in a pretentious effort to impress, sound like they come from a group of high school volunteers working on their first political campaign. If these are the minds media rely on, no wonder the industry is tanking. And I'd say if those journolisters wanted to see a few Brownshirts, all they had to do was hold up a mirror.
