Lame Duck option for Democrats as Devolution beckons to GOP

to a subordinate level or organization, particularly from a central
government to regional or local governments. [Encarta]
Son of President Roosevelt before Tax Evasion Committee. Washington D.C., July 13, 1937. James Roosevelt, son and Secretary of President Roosevelt, who appeared before the Joint Congressional Tax Evasion Committee today to deny "emphatically" assertions by Rep. Hamilton Fish, R. of New York that he has used tax law loopholes, Roosevelt is shown surrounded by newpapermen just before taking the witness stand.Members of Obama's cabinet and Democrat members of Congrss have had problems with their taxes. [Harris and Ewing collection, US Library of Congress] The Obama-Pelosi-Reid potential for cramming through pet progressive goals is cropping up in political chatter right now. John Fund at The Wall Street Journal pointed out risks for Democrats in November. Polls suggest that voters have wised up to the disastrous policies and ineptitude in national leaders.
Fund said, “There have been signs in recent weeks that party leaders are planning an ambitious, lame-duck session to muscle through bills in December they don't want to defend before November. Retiring or defeated members of Congress would then be able to vote for sweeping legislation without any fear of voter retaliation.”
‘Lame Duck’ is the sweetest sound these Dems can hear. But there’s another sound trickling through the populace and it just might be the saving grace for our country. If the GOP doesn’t hear the sound of Devolution, the Party isn’t listening.
On the one hand you have Democrats desperate to move America to ‘Eu-topian’ status although that status hasn’t worked out so well for Europe.
Among the sweeping legislative goals for Dems are pet progressive causes like Card Check, Cap and Trade and passing whatever President Barack Obama’s ‘Deficit Commission’ [de facto Tax Commission] recommends for dealing with the historic level of debt this president and his administration have established. This administration is like President Franklin D. Roosevelt on steroids.
It’s comical how many times Obama and Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) have chided President George W. Bush for his spending when Democrats have turned spending into an art and set world records in the process. It’s nefarious how a wussified national media marches lock step with these so-called progressive goals. Progressivism leads to bankruptcy, period.
Democrats are at a disadvantage as November looms, at least for right now. From the moment Obama took office, they spent. By March, 2009, Democrats had jumped on the crony-reward bill HR 1388, the ‘Give Act.’ As in give your taxpayer dollars to us so we can redistribute them to select community groups—billions and billions of dollars to enrich virtual feudal lords who then dispense favors and government money to their minions. Democrats always did love a plantation.
The advanced age of many Democrat leaders combined with the political royalty syndrome that strikes demagogues like Pelosi and Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and complete ineptitude in true governing abilities suggest this Congress will go down in history as the most corrupt, most inept group of politicians the country has ever had.
Meanwhile the GOP has spent a great deal of time on offense, and with good cause. Yes they spent after they took Congress in 1994—they could not resist temptation after watching Democrats rule this country for more than 40 years. In those years, sending pork home was the mark of a good congressman, and Republicans had witnessed Democrats doing that for almost half a century, with the late Sen. Robert Byrd(D-West Va.) all time king of the Hill of Pork.
But Americans have come to realize the pork can’t last forever. With every dollar spent or wasted, Boomers are seeing their retirement squandered and youth, whether they know it or not, are seeing their futures mortgaged to China and other lenders. With every redistributive plan, Americans know much of the wealth isn’t being redistributed here—it’s going abroad.
Americans are tired of the spending, of a president whose policies increase federal employee rosters (benefit: unions), make electricity rates “skyrocket” and ensure inferior healthcare for all. And we are tired of the holier than thou approach to governing, the cramming of questionable legislation to benefit cronies rather than the populace.
The greatest public relations triumph of all time is that the Democrat Party is the Party of the People. That is true if you are a member of certain unions, a corporate crony or a select hedge fund manager. The rest of us people don’t figure in the Democrat agenda until the tax bill comes due.
If the GOP is smart, Party leaders will search deeply in their souls and downsize the central government, reduce spending (especially in non-vital agencies), reform the arcane, confusing tax code and come up with a means to put some reason into the healthcare costs that are breaking the bank, especially on entitlements.
If the GOP is smart, they will hear the call of those of us who believe the very essence of our country is at stake. If the GOP is smart, they will restore some sense of integrity to a government whose leaders would not recognize integrity if it slapped them in their botoxed faces.
What is desperately needed to right this country is a ‘Devolution’ starting at the ballot box in November.
Let Democrats have their Lame Duck. And if November goes as it should, let us begin the Devolution to return this country to her people rather than to a group of self-serving, looting politicos who are a blight on our great Republic.—Commentary by Kay B. Day
