Kurt Kelly, the man who wants to take Alan Grayson down

GOP contender Kurt Kelly (right) is working hard to win the GOP Primary in order to take on Democrat Alan Grayson for a US House seat in the November, 2010, elections. (Photo from Kelly for Congress Facebook page)If there’s one race in Florida that Republicans would love to win, that race would be in Florida District 8. Democrat Rep. Alan Grayson currently holds the seat—the notorious representative who called a former Clinton female adviser a “K Street whore.”

Grayson is alternatively known as the ‘Die Quickly Democrat’ for remarks he made about GOP negativity to Obamacare. Once Americans begin to see what this bill does to healthcare—key policy points will kick in over a period of years—we will fully understand how Democrats blew a real opportunity to deliver the reform they promised. Obamacare is no patient’s friend.

Grayson of course promoted Obamacare as you’d expect—he votes party line 98 percent of the time. There are a number of GOP contenders in the Aug. 24 primary. One of the strongest is Kurt Kelly who currently serves in the Florida legislature. Kelly agreed to an interview with The US Report by email.

One of the first things TUSR wanted to know is how Kelly’s perspectives differ from Grayson’s. Saying the differences are “legion,” Kelly added, “Grayson is an ultraliberal who hijacked District 8 by posing in centrist’s clothing. This district is a conservative district, but he was able to spend millions of his own money to ride in on Obama’s coattails. He is a member of the Democratic socialist caucus and believes that government is the solution to all ills of society. His voting in Congress has supported Pelosi and Barney Frank. He was a strong player in Obamacare…”

Obamacare came in through the side door, so to speak, when Democrats used reconciliation to pass a bill that will affect one of the largest sectors  of the US economy, healthcare. Kelly said reconciliation is a “back room tactic” first used in 1974 for budget issues.“ I have been on several committees where members of the Senate and House worked together to solve monetary differences. However, the process was perverted by Washington. Reconciliation was never intended to solve differences in such a major bill as Obamacare.”

It’s a well-known fact Democrats have admitted they don’t read the bills they pass—with some bills they have barely allowed time for anyone to read them despite President Barack Obama’s promises about transparency in government. Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) even hired a speed reader for the Cap and Trade bill, another boondoggle piece of legislation that would cause utility bills to “skyrocket,” a wish Obama has confessed to. Cap and Trade (HR 2454) would also have a profound effect on the already struggling US economy.

As a state legislator, Kelly is accustomed to the grind that comes about when many issues must be tackled during a busy session. On reading bills before signing them, Kelly said, “Although reading every bill is difficult- especially appropriations bills that come up for vote within 72 hours- I do read the bills and the committee recommendations about policy and fiscal impact. When the legislature is in session, I went into my office at 5:00 AM to read the bills that were coming up in the committee and on the floor. I surmise that in a legislative session we make about 2,000 decisions and votes both in committee and on the floor.”

His take on the basis for legislation goes to the intent of the founding fathers. “I believe that the Constitution provides the foundation for legislation. Applying the original intent of the Constitution should be the goal of lawmakers and that certainly will be my policy.“

Grayson is known for his mean-spirited verbal attacks, and Kelly experienced one of those recently after Grayson sent out his self-promoting DVD at taxpayer expense. The DVD was guised as a constituent mailing, but in actuality, it comes off to the viewer as a ‘Glorify Grayson’ work. Kelly said Grayson pretended to forget his last name recently when responding to questions about Kelly’s criticism.

Kelly said, “When I appeared on FOX Business challenging him for spending $73,000 to send out a puff-piece DVD just before the blackout date, he asked the question KURT-Who? I died laughing. He shared an office with me in the same building for over a year. His name was next to mine on the signs. It might be that he never came to the office or even knew where it was in Marion County.”

Kelly brings a diverse background to the table—he’s got a foot in both the business world and government. Challenges to small businesses especially hard hit by Obama economics resonate with him. “I have the small business at heart, and I will work to promote legislation that gets government out of the way and enables business and entrepreneurs to prosper. Free enterprise, private businesses, and individuals create jobs and wealth, not government.”

There’s a lot of interest in this race. On Kelly’s Facebook page, a post said a debate in Winter Garden drew 1,000 attendees.

At the moment Kelly is campaigning hard with one end goal in sight—win the primary on Aug. 24. He said he’s busy working on the challenges of having six primary opponents in the GOP Primary. And there are the usual campaign challenges—the distortion of truth and the manipulation of rumor. He said his greatest challenge is “the focus of keeping my eye on defeating Grayson.” He deals with campaign tactics and refuses to let himself worry about attacks from opponents. “You cannot worry about these things,” he said. “Deal with them, but keep your focus on the goal.”

That goal would be seeing to it Kelly is the man who takes Alan Grayson down, a development that would help restore sound government principles to a US Congress currently dominated by the far left.

I don't think Kurt Kelly is the Man to beat Grayson, but there is a WOMAN in that very same race by the name of Patricia Sullivan who is the best Candidate to beat (Dis)Grayson. She is the Right Choice because she is a true patriot endorsed by the Independent Caucus and many others as well. She was the only candidate to get on the ballot by getting over 5000 signatures. All the other candidates had to spend campaign funds or money out their own pocket to get on; that right there proves she is fiscally conservative. Patricia is the Peoples candidate and will be a very important part of taking back our country!

Kurt Kelly is the man to beat Grayson. He is a man of integrity yet has a pitbull attitude when it comes for fighting for our nation and our freedoms and liberties.

Kurt is one of us-the people- and is the people's choice. He is a small business owner and a true proven conservative leader with experience in the Florida Legislature. Kurt Kelly is a new bold, Reagan-inspired Republican with the energy and fire to take a bully like Grayson.
For all the folks that in are Congressional District 8 and if you have family and friends in that district in Florida- Orlando, Lake County and Ocala- Kurt needs your vote. He will humbly and honorably take on Alan Grayson - one of the most ultra extreme radical and liberals in Congress today- for you.

Vote for Kurt Kelly on August 24.

I have been watching this young man Kurt Kelly for
quite a while. I like what he stands for. He is the
strongest conservative in the race. He is the one
who can take Grayson down.
As for that WOMAN, Patricia Sullivan, she is not qualified
to even run for the school board. Perhaps she should
begin at the PTA, perhaps run for the president of that
organization. Nope, can't do that she is a home schooler.
I'm sure she can find somewhere to begin her political
career that she has the qualifications for.
