Are Democrats on board with UN taxing US citizens?
Saturday, August 7, 2010 at 1:11PM Red alert on taxes. International looters convened this week in Bonn, Germany. A wire service said carbon taxes and other revenue raising methods have been considered by “a panel of the world's leading economists to raise a staggering $100 billion a year to fight climate change.” UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon appointed the panel.
The goal is to help poor countries “adapt to climate change.” Maybe they can encourage countries like Somalia to use something for fuel besides all those trees they chop down to sell for charcoal on the black market when they’re not occupied with piracy.
China and India will benefit—they’re still classified as “developing countries.”
President Barack Obama’s economic adviser Larry Summers attended. Summers worked with President Bill Clinton too, touting his influence in bringing about the biggest financial deregulation in US history. We all know how that worked out. Just check your retirement fund if you need a reminder.
Someone should assess the damage academic economists have inflicted on the US. Bear in mind these guys have never created a single job and most (not all) of them root in the public trough.
Leftwinger George Soros attended. Even if you have billions, a few more won’t hurt despite what Obama said about wealth.
Not to worry. The panel is chaired by the prime ministers of Norway and Ethiopia and the president of Guyana. Americans can rest easy—these guys will surely look after the interests of everyday Americans, right?
The US Report, in March, 2009, was one of the only media outlets—left, center, or right—to cover an action by the Democrats in Congress. Dems shot down an amendment to the Omnibus Appropriations Bill by Sen. James Inhofe. He introduced a preventive amendment that would have barred the use of U.S. funds from appropriations bills to pursue global tax schemes. Dems opened a wide door for UN taxes on Americans.
You may wonder if this amendment was one of those radical right wing ideas. It was not. In a public announcement, Inhofe said, “This provision has appeared in every annual appropriations bill since 1996, and this year marks the first time an annual appropriations bill will not contain this policy.”
One thing’s for sure. These Democrats are certainly delivering some expensive change as promised during the 2008 campaign.
Carbon tax schemes and the money machine behind so-called climate change will transfer more US wealth out of the country. And of course financiers like Soros and former vice-president Al Gore will benefit—Gore already has.
I do not believe the current administration will have the “cajones” (as Gov. Sarah Palin said) to stand up to international looters. I do believe one reason for the statist media and some international media’s smear campaign on former President George w. Bush was because he did stand up to looters like these.
Incidentally, these looters are having an international travel extravaganza—they’ve been to Copenhagen and Bonn and next they’ll head to Cancun. US taxpayers fund such trips for officials like Summers, either directly or via our UN dues. Ah, those Democrats do love their free travel.
The UN is the worst idea a Democrat president ever had. That organization has been rife with scandals like Oil for Food and various heads of the UN have always beat a path to the US door with their hand out. Meanwhile in 2009, Ki-moon called the US ‘deadbeats’ in 2009. I personally hope we live up to our name.
Don’t expect most media to even tell you this. They’re too busy worrying about our First Lady’s clothes and her veggie garden. Great reportage abounds.
It's likely Democrats in Congress will do nothing about this. They're already on board with the UN taxing US citizens. And $100 billion more won't make a difference to them, although it will take a chunk out of your disposable income. What's left of it anyway.
