Brief video shows Breitbart apparently endorsing Meek over Crist

Screen Snip/Marco Rubio addresses CPAC 2010. [Kay B. Day]Javier Manjarres at The Shark Tank is the man with the cam and the blog. I have to say he covers the ground when it comes to candidates and politicos. Now he’s managed to shoot new media mogul Andrew Breitbart in what is apparently an endorsement of Florida Democrat Kendrick Meek in the US Senate race—Meek when compared to Gov. Charlie Crist, that is. At the moment, former Speaker of the Florida House Marco Rubio (GOP) is the frontrunner in the 3-way.
On the video, Manjarres and Breitbart are chatting about the Senate race; Breitbart refuses to diss Gov. Charlie Crist for his incessant flip-flopping. And the tape snippet ends when Breitbart says, “I think that Kendrick Meek might be the man for Florida.”
Now I’d prefer Meek over Crist too—for one thing, at least Meek has stayed true to his Democrat platform. For another, Meek didn’t campaign under the banner of one Party, pocket donations and gain media presence and then jump out from the banner to declare himself an independent candidate. As I wrote in my Jacksonville Republican Examiner column, Even the term ‘independent’ is incorrect. Technically, according to the Duval County (Fla.) supervisor of elections, Crist is a no party affiliation candidate—NPA.
But there’s a confusing statement within a writeup Manjarres did: “Breitbart also expressed his thoughts about the frontrunner, Republican candidate and all around swell dude, Marco Rubio before giving a his big bear hug of an endorsement to a true liberal instead of wanna-be liberal Charlie Crist.”
I wish we could’ve seen that full video—those of us who are fiscal conservatives have had no representation in the Senate, at least none that we elected. Sen. George LeMieux, with the exception of a vote or two, was an improvement, however, over the predecessor he replaced by appointment.
I saw comments about Crist in response to a newspaper story over the weekend. The commenter suggested Crist was honorable because he now owes no political party—he can make decisions independent of ideology.
I’d respond to that position by asking if Crist had that tug of ideological conscience, why did he wait to leave the GOP until it looked like he would have real competition from his Primary opponent Rubio? Crist has gone from the GOP to NPA to Democrat lite, even courting Meek’s potential supporters.
I called out Rubio’s promise early on, and have publicly endorsed him. I’ve donated to him. So you know where I stand.
If we get a Democrat or Crist in the Senate—we already have one—the ideology of Obama-Pelosi-Reid will prevail. So far that ideology has been a definite downer for the U.S.
Brings to mind that song Bob Dylan wrote—Subterranean Homesick Blues, the original spoken word piece before spoken word was hip. Dylan wrote, “You don’t need a weatherman/To know which way the wind blows.”
Unless that is you’re Crist.
The Shark Tank also said Breitbart supports Allen West (GOP) for Florida’s House seat in Dist. 22.
