Breitbart shakes up neo-libs, but most media miss the real point(s)

New media guru Andrew Breitbart once again has given the neo-lib tree a shake. Democrat House delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton (D.C.) who has been in Washington since before President Bill Clinton, is the latest target for Breitbart. Naturally that moves Breitbart into position as the target for what I think I’ll call poli-class media. Norton allegedly made a fundraising call to a lobbyist and the lobbyist didn’t answer—the call went to voicemail.

The voicemail recording apparently was sent to Breitbart. But the recording is a small issue in the scheme of things, in my opinion.

At Big Government, you can read the content of the recorded message Norton allegedly left the lobbyist

You can read the public relations response on behalf of Norton at Politico.

While the poli-class accuses Breitbart of everything from racial prejudice to goldfish stomping, many will miss the significance of Norton’s call.

For one thing it’s obvious she’s part of the machine that by the way has included members of both parties that sucks the blood out of the taxpayer like a Florida mosquito on steroids.

Politico alleged Norton told the lobbyist, “I am a senior member, 20-year veteran, and am chair of the subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management. I’m handling the largest economic development project in the United States now, the Homeland Security compound of three buildings being built on the old St. Elizabeth’s hospital site in the District of Columbia along with 15 other sites here that are part of the stimulus.”

Consider the size of D.C. and ask yourself how much of that so-called Stimulus pie the District got. The “largest economic development in the United States now”? We’re building a Homeland Security compound when we already got intelligence and security agency buildings all over the place. And there are 15 other sites?

And those federal structures will be maintained and staffed by the taxpayer—that’s the part that isn’t in Norton’s message. Norton’s in charge of public buildings so I’m thinking she takes that in a highly literal way.
Aside from that, Norton’s request is more than likely status quo for longtime Washington politicos.

Aside from that, check out this passage from Norton’s official bio: “Congresswoman Norton's accomplishments in breaking barriers for her disempowered district are matched by her success in bringing home unique economic benefits to her constituents.  Among them are senatorial courtesy to recommend federal judges, the U.S. Attorney, and other significant federal law enforcement positions for the District; up to $10,000 per year for all D.C. high school graduates to attend any public U.S. college or university and up to $2,500 per year to many private colleges and universities; a unique $5,000 D.C. homebuyer tax credit, which has sharply increased home ownership in the District and has been a major factor in stabilizing the city's population; and D.C. business tax incentives, including a significant wage credit for employing D.C. residents, which has maintained businesses and residents in the District.”

But aside from that, the status quo is not what Democrat President Barack Obama and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi promised America—they promised integrity and a draining of the swamp.

Fact is that swamp is still full of gators and the only drain I see is the one my taxpayer bucks are going down in the name of what politicos  call the ‘Stimulus’ and Norton could call bringing home the pork in the name of a “disempowered district.”

Ten grand a year for all D.C. high school graduates—a scholarship just for graduating?

And you wonder why taxpayers are irate with Washington?  The poli-class media can’t fathom why anyone would care that politicos are driving this country into bankruptcy.

If Norton was a Republican, David Letterman would be doing jokes and Northeastern newspapers would put the story above the fold for days.
