Democrats offer insult cloaked in apology for publishing West’s social security number
Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at 9:59AM It’s no secret Democrats and their so-called ‘progressive’ kin will do just about anything to hang onto Rep. Ron Klein’s US House seat in Florida District 22. Klein’s opponent LTC (R) Allen West has been consistently attacked throughout the campaign. But the latest attack is a new low even for Democrats desperate to hold onto absolute power in Washington.
The height of irony is that the criticism arose over minor tax matters West dealt with. Democrat President Barack Obama appointed a treasury secretary whose own tax reportage came up short. Democrat Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi left tax-addled Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) in a key committee position dealing with US tax regulations while he tried to deal with his own alleged misdeeds.
Klein and his colleagues apparently think it’s fine to make mistakes on taxes as long as you’re a Democrat because none of them have wailed publicly about their fellow Democrats’ tax infractions.
West has been disinvited to charity events—he’s a black Republican and I think that’s reason enough for elitists to scrub him from a South Florida gala.
But then Democrats published West’s social security number in a direct mail piece that went to thousands of voters. Why did they do this? Because they inflated a tax problem that could happen to anyone—a problem West said he cleared up within 4 months.
And when media wanted to know who was responsible, Klein ducked an explanation by blaming the Florida Democrat Party machine. And that machine offered the most condescending statement I’ve read in a long time.
The Palm Beach Post carried the Democrats' statement that was supposed to be an apology to West:
“Florida Democratic Party spokesman Eric Jotkoff called the inclusion of West's Social Security number an "oversight" in a statement that included a barbed apology to West.
“After making every effort to remove all of Allen West's private information, unlike West who refuses to apologize to Florida's taxpayers for not paying his taxes and his bills, we apologize for the oversight of not redacting this information from the public record included in the mailer," Jotkoff said. "To end, while this mail piece does not explicitly identify any Social Security number, in order to stop the crazy West accusations, we will pay for identify theft monitoring for the next two years."
Jotkoff’s statement suggests a complete lack of ethics and perhaps an undeclared acknowledgement their candidate has nothing to offer the people and so attacks are the only campaign method the Democrats and Klein camp can rely on. And by the way, Klein doesn't exactly come off as a maestro of ethics. A post at The Shark Tank pointed to the fact Klein's "not so fine business dealings are coming under scrutiny."
I keep saying this, but it’s important. When you vote in November, if you cast a Democrat vote, these are the type of people you are handing power to. It doesn’t matter if the Democrat candidate is one you like—the vote will benefit a party drunk on power and incapable of sound governance.
It’s one thing to offer a sincere apology. It’s quite another to insult someone you’ve harmed.
