Reid's call for "teeny" tax increase based on false assumptions

Nevada Democrat Harry Reid, Senate Majority Leader, wants a tax increase. Are you as not-shocked as I am? By now we have come to learn a truth.

Liberals=more taxes, please?

Reid said the rich will just have to pay a ‘teeny, tiny fraction more’ in taxes, though: Out of $1.1 million a year, the “rich” person would have to “pay an additional $700 to put America back to work.”

These people are the top 2/10 of one percent of American taxpayers!

Reid personalizes it—“Who are these people? They’re the same millionaires and billionaires whose annual after tax income increased by over 275 percent over the last three decades.”

False, stupidly false.

Reid has no idea if someone who made that amount of money last year made that amount of money three decades ago.

Reid is personalizing a tax bracket.

Nice try at fabricating an argument, though.

Aside from that if it’s only $700 from the top 2/10 of one percent,  that certainly isn’t going to budge trillions in US debt. The Cato Institute frames it well. Obama's resentment towards the rich, otherwise known as class warfare, will simply make us all "equally poorer."

Even a looter like Reid knows that tax increase will not put America back to work. Reid and his fellows already spent nearly a trillion dollars failing at that. All they had to do was read Franklin D. Roosevelt's bio and they'd have known Stimulus and government spending will not restore the economy government wrecked in the first place, via crony capitalism, outright corruption and weak governance.

Reid, like other tax hikers before him, just wants more to spend. Otherwise, how will a failed leadership reward their constituency ahead of 2012?

As Greece faces a complete socio-economic meltdown, big tax-and-spenders like Reid make speeches instead of doing the heavy lifting to get us out of this mess.

Reid has been sailing on the ship that blew up our economy for a very long time. He and others like him are responsible for our inconceivable debt and an expansion of government that will ultimately lead to no good.

Reid’s class warfare might charm a naïve college kid seeking that propagandized Utopia known as social justice, but anyone who’s been around the block and actually paid taxes knows the truth.

For one thing, the rich don’t deserve a special gouging just because the US government decided to spend more than we take in for as long as I can remember.

Has Reid forgotten the tax hikes in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, more appropriately called the ObamaNotCare Act? Tanning tax? Cig tax? I must be leaving some tax out.

Nice try on that “teeny” tax increase, though, Reid. Absolutely devoid of logic.

Stand Reid in a corner and make him write this passage from a previous TUSR column 1,000 times:

Heritage Foundation Backgrounder No. 928 gives you the facts: “A Joint Economic Committee report found that every dollar of higher taxes since 1947 has resulted in $1.59 of higher spending. This statistical survey is supported by recent history. Tax increases in 1982, 1984, 1987, and 1990 all were enacted for the alleged purpose of deficit reduction. In every case, however, the deficit rose the following year because lawmakers could not resist the temptation to spend the expected new revenues.”
