Obama’s alleged ‘surge’ on Gallup deserves closer look

Judging by the Politico headline, you’d think President Barack Obama’s popularity is booming. The website ran the following header on Monday: Gallup: Obama approval surges.

Politico favors drama when it comes to Obama approval ratings. You can see by the original headline that is part of the URL structure that the writer first declared Obama’s approval ‘roars back.’ Apparently ‘surges' provided a more positive outlook. If someone’s approval ‘roared back,’ that would suggest a dismal status beforehand.

Politico appeared to be celebrating the 45 percent of Gallup respondents (Dec. 19-25) who approve of Obama’s job performance while dismissing the 47 percent who disapprove.  The poll took a random sample of adults.

It’s hard to believe anyone would approve of a president who:

*allows corporate interests to dictate his energy policy, increasing utility costs for every single American.
*supports policies that have quite possibly killed or threatened as many jobs as they have created.
*promotes a sham of a healthcare bill that has already increased insurance costs and will dilute the quality of healthcare for those who are not in the political elite or uber-wealthy camp.
*supports an attorney general who plays the race card at every turn and has made a mockery of the Dept. of Justice.

It’s even more astounding that any rational person would support a president whose past is so cloudy you’d need a laser to get through the walls erected by strategists, image shapers and media.

Who are these people who caused Obama’s approval to surge or roar back?

In a previous poll taken by ABC and The Washington Post between Dec. 15-18, 49 percent approved and 47 percent disapproved the job this president has done. That poll provided cross tab info that enlightens. A random national sample of 1,005 adults included 23 percent liberals, 36 percent moderates, and 37 percent conservatives. The labels are self-described and highly subjective.

The label ‘moderate’ is always suspect. That label is a bit like ‘independent.’ I have never met a Republican who cast himself as an indie. Many people who have described themselves to me as ‘moderate’ are in fact Democrats.

The ABC/WaPo poll aside, the primary takeaway from the Gallup Poll, for those who haven't the time to focus on specifics and the nitty gritty, is that Politico sees Obama’s job approval as roaring or surging in a Gallup poll of random adults, most of whom disapproved of the job this president is doing.

This brings to mind the numerous polls an influential Democrat blogger site touted during the 2008 General Election when polls were used to advance Obama and his running mate Joe Biden. Alas, the Democrat blogger eventually alleged his polls were fraudulent.

Take polls with a grain of salt. Anyone who believes this president has done a good job for the country is in serious need of a reality check.

I think that the American public is anxious to get rid of a bad idea - Barack Hussein Obama - and sense that a second term would be a unmitigated disaster. Any Republican candidate, except the blathering Ron Paul, can easily beat Obama given a fair election. But, with racist AG Eric Holder refusing to enforce voting laws, and a corrupt mass media, hell bent on re-electing our communist leaning president, we have a bigger hill to climb.

Gene, let's just hope the GOP has the sense to know what we are up against. Personally, I think 2012 is going to be one long nasty attack ad by Dems who have no record to run on. I saw a pundit today say Obama is trying to position himself as a champion for the middle class.

A more appropriate label for this president is a Godzilla attempting to smash the middle class to smithereens.
