Eggheads at DOJ push door wide open on Muslim teacher case
Thursday, March 24, 2011 at 1:37PM At the moment, eggheads don’t only control the US Senate, they also control the Executive Branch of our government. Some of those eggheads employed by the US Dept. of Justice have pushed a controversial door wide open with a lawsuit on behalf of a Muslim teacher. By the way, this isn’t the first time DOJ has gone out of its way for a faith whose tenets of government run contrary to Western standards.
The Washington Post said the Chicago teacher, 29 year old Safoorah Khan, wanted to make the Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca known as Hajj. Muslims view making the Hajj at least once as obligatory. Khan wanted 19 days off for the trip. WaPo said, “The school district, faced with losing its only math lab instructor during the critical end-of-semester marking period, said no.”
She quit and made the trip anyway. The story should’ve ended there. This was, after all, a local issue.
But Super Lawyer rose out of the Beltway to defend the indefensible.
The school district, said DOJ, had discriminated against Khan.
DOJ filed suit but a trial date has not been set.
This action complements another DOJ action regarding how teachers dress for the classroom. DOJ succeeded in getting Oregon’s governor to sign a bill removing a ban on teachers wearing religious garb.
This really shouldn’t surprise any of us because at the moment, our domestic and international affairs are being run by a bunch of textbookers—people who govern based on ideology rather than reality. We are in the mess we’re in because of that approach. President Barack Obama isn’t the only president with Ivory Tower policy. Former president Bill Clinton did love his intellectuals—Clinton’s saving grace (and the greatest untold story of that decade) was the Republican Congress. Newt Gingrich and crew actually managed to get something done as Clinton’s economic adviser Larry Summers was praising himself for financial deregulation—we all know how Summers’ experiment turned out.
My issue isn’t with a Muslim teaching. My issue revolves around a school district having to re-arrange limited resources to accommodate a religious principle that had nothing to do with fairness in employment.
DOJ can’t be bothered to protect voting rights for all people*, but they’ve got plenty of time to attempt to score political points as an act of desperation—if we act publicly on behalf of a specific religion adherents will love us. Clinton tried that too and look how that turned out.
It is no business of the DOJ to inject itself into a matter best left to the school district and the employee. Furthermore, DOJ has once again opened the door for all manner of foolishness. Think about all the different faiths. Soon anyone from any faith can demand his or her employer give time off for whatever that employee believes is a pillar of his or her faith.
Schools in many states hold classes on one of the holiest days in Christendom, Good Friday. If DOJ prevails in this foolish lawsuit, schools should technically close across the nation on that day. Same goes for top holy days observed by Jews, Wiccans, Buddhists and others.
DOJ ‘s mission is not foreign policy-making—the only time DOJ should be involved in a situation involving a foreign country is when there is a public safety threat or crime.
Someone might share the DOJ mission statement with our president and his DOJ chief who are spending American taxpayer money for nothing more than to interfere in a local issue over which the school board had jurisdiction.

This is another example in an already long list of an administration more concerned with Muslim outreach than it is in upholding the law.
