Ryan says Obama budget plan triples US debt over 10-year term
Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at 9:38AM Ryan's 'Path to Prosperity' is posted online. Unlike many of the bills and plans crafted by Democrats, Ryan's plan is written in simple English and is easily comprehended.Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) is known for his knowledge about the federal budget and spending, one reason he heads up the Budget Committee in the US House of Representatives. Ryan appeared on Fox and Friends on Wednesday, and he made the case for his fiscal plan ‘The Path to Prosperity’ with a declaration that should upset every American. “Obama,” said Ryan, “is accelerating us towards a debt crisis.”
Why? Because of “budget gimmicks and accounting tricks.”
Ryan delivered hard numbers that would send any business owner into a tailspin. Under President Barack Obama and his fellow Democrats in Congress, federal agency spending rose 24 percent across the board. Once Stimulus dollars were unleashed, the increase rose to 84 percent.
In a down year any business, large or small, raising budgets across the board by 84 percent would not be long for this world.
As Obama delivers sound bites suggesting Republicans “act like grownups,” we should be reminded this is a president whose Party passed a historic tax and spending bill through the back door—the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, popularly called ObamaCare but more appropriately called PelosiCare.
After the bill passed, in a truly bizarre moment, then Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) told us Dems had to pass the bill so we’d know what was in it.
Why is PPACA a tax and spend bill? In Ryan’s plan 'Path to Prosperity', he explains that his plan, “Eliminates roughly $800 billion in tax increases imposed by the President’s health care law. Prevents the $1.5 trillion tax increase called for in the President’s budget.”
Ryan also pointed out what provoked the spending battle—Democrats who campaigned on “Hope and Change” made one huge change—they spent without a budget. When Democrats had full control of the government they simply didn’t pass one. The Senate—still under Dem control—hasn’t passed one yet.
Meanwhile the Obama administration set a spending record that would qualify for a world record book. If I were a GOP strategist—I’m not but I am a registered Republican unlike most in media who are bona fide Democrats—I’d nominate this administration for the official world record book. They deserve the dubious recognition.
Youth will be most affected by this fiscal recklessness because the next generation will bear the burden of debt, a large portion to foreign countries. Ryan’s plan discloses, “It would be one thing if the U.S. government owed most of this money to domestic lenders. But the nation’s reliance on foreign creditors has increased dramatically over the past few decades. Foreigners now own roughly half of all publicly held U.S. debt, a sharp increase from a generation ago when foreigners owned just 5 percent of U.S. debt. This makes the nation vulnerable to a sudden shift in foreign-investor sentiment, particularly during a time of crisis.”
Ryan’s Path to Prosperity plan is posted online, and if you hear Democrats making claims about it, go to the report and get the facts. Then send a letter to the editor of your paper so people can learn where to find the truth. It is imperative that Americans not rely on traditional media because traditional media actively campaigned to elect this administration. Exhibit one for the prosecution: Journolist.*
Democrats pointed the first finger at Medicare and Medicaid in an attempt to fire up retirees. What Dems don’t admit is explained in Ryan’s plan:
“This is putting enormous pressure on Medicare and Medicaid. But these programs aren’t just affected by rapidly rising health-care costs – they are actually a key driver of inflation in the health-care sector. Nearly 50 cents of every dollar spent on health care in this country is spent by federal, state or local government. Because of the design and structure of these programs, much of the government’s money gets wasted – and shows up as inflation in the cost of care."
Obama talks about “shared sacrifice” but federal government bureaucrats have certainly not shared any sacrifice.
Ryan said Obama’s budget plan doubled US debt in his first term and triples the debt over a 10-year period.
“I wouldn’t be bragging about that,” Ryan said.
Ryan should be on the 2012 GOP ticket. He sees the writing on the wall and like many of us who have children, he knows what needs to be done not only so those children can have a shot at the American dream. He doesn’t want them strapped by debt to oppressive countries where freedom is restricted. And if you think that day won’t come when liberties are curtailed, if we don’t see to spending reform, you’d best think again.
Most of all, ask yourself if you would spend 8 times what you make and then knock on your neighbor’s door to ask him to lend you more so you could spend more.
Crazy, isn’t it?
Don’t you wish socialist-progressive Democrats would “act like grownups”?
