Scheuer to Cavuto: Obama should ‘cut his losses’ on bin Laden

Michael Scheuer, author of the most credible bio on Osama bin Laden, told Fox News’ Neil Cavuto President Barack Obama should “cut his losses.” Scheuer was answering questions on Wednesday about the Osama bin Laden operation—Scheuer believes Obama should show photos documenting OBL’s death. Scheuer headed up the CIA’s first OBL unit.

By not showing the photo, Scheuer told Cavuto, “People will believe Osama bin Laden is not dead, or that the government is lying.”

Whatever Obama does, Scheuer claims, “Muslims still hate us.”

Scheuer said US support for Israel is one of the reasons—“a huge problem for US foreign policy.” The Libertarian leaning independent analyst said government shouldn’t be able to steal dollars from your pockets and give it to foreign countries.

Scheuer is not of the ‘Israel First’ sector most conservatives like me favor because Israel is our most valuable ally in the Middle East and Israel’s roots in Judaism are the roots of all Christian faiths. Judaism is one of the cornerstones in Western culture.  Judaism also constitutes one of the platforms for Islam.

I do agree with Scheuer on the photograph, however.  He took issue with “the idea that any picture in today’s American culture would be shocking.”

Scheuer said there are probably no more than 1500-2000 people in OBL’s organization at present. He ascribes OBL’s popularity in some cultures as being a product of “an age of celebrity,” and he suggested OBL’s stature rests on the fact he stood up to the U.S.

Scheuer also believes the US should pull out of Muslim countries. “They wouldn’t be attacking us if we weren’t on their territory,” he said.

Scheuer’s claim is at odds with other experts who believe there is a goal in some fundamentalist-ruled countries to restore the Caliphate.

Islamist critic Daniel Pipes wrote in 2005, “In nearly all cases, the jihadi terrorists have a patently self-evident ambition: to establish a world dominated by Muslims, Islam, and Islamic law, the Shari'a.”

Terrorist attacks on Western interests predate 9-11.
