ABC race baiting ignores fact most segregated cities not in the South
Monday, October 29, 2012 at 8:32AM Graphic and caption: Geography at about.com, via University of Texas Libraries. On Sunday, ABC’s ‘This Week’ resorted to resurrecting the Old Confederacy in an attempt to explain why support for President Barack Obama has declined.
Desperate perhaps over ongoing polls that show a Democrat Party in serious trouble, the pundits resorted to race baiting.
Here’s an example from one of the Leftist pundits on that show:
"If Virginia and Florida go back to the Republicans, it's the Confederacy, entirely. You put the map of the civil war over this electoral map you got the civil war…"
Various pundits on the show echoed the southern racist conspiracy theory, with conservative moderate George Will correctly calling what the Leftists were spewing “poppycock.”
Guests on the show were discussing an online poll the Associated Press published making absurd claims—that most of us are racially prejudiced whether we realize it or not. Anyone taking this poll seriously should look for a good therapist.
Obama received broad support from all races in 2008, but the polarization was highest among black people, not whites. Obama received 95 percent of the black vote in 2008. A poll conducted in August, 2012, suggested the president will receive about the same in his reelection bid.
Bear in mind if Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney got 95 percent of the white vote, he’d be putting his feet up instead of walking the campaign trail.
The Old Confederacy theory is double poppycock, if you look at where people choose to live.
The Manhattan Institute for Policy Research released the results of a study in 2012, The End of the Segregated Century: Racial Separation in America’s Neighborhhods 1890-2010.The study authors noted [boldface added]:
“Residential segregation has declined pervasively, as ghettos depopulate and the nation’s population center shifts toward the less segregated Sun Belt.”
This study also noted the nation’s most segregated cities. Top among them: Chicago, Obama’s most recent home city. Close behind: Cleveland. Others on the list include Detroit, Los Angeles and Milwaukee. Most are Democrat strongholds. None are in the Old Confederacy.
Here’s another interesting tidbit [boldface added]:
“The freedom to choose one’s location has helped reduce segregation. Segregation has declined in part because African-Americans left older, more segregated, cities and moved to less segregated Sun Belt cities and suburbs. This process occurred despite some public attempts to keep people in these older areas.”
Obama’s decline in popularity has to do with divisive Democrat Party politics and weak leadership from party elders like Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) as well as botched attempts at healthcare reform.
Despite underreported scandals like Solyndra, Fast and Furious and the Mideast meltdown due to foreign policy failures, Americans recognize the country is in serious need of leadership. Aside from that, all our wallets are thinner regardless of our skin color, not just because of the housing meltdown but also because of Democrats’ policies.
Race baiting is a tactic embraced by the Left. Those ABC pundits shouldn’t shoot first and aim later on matters of race.
Furthermore, Democrat policy has certainly not improved the lot of the racial blocs they pander to purely for votes and power.
People don’t choose to live where they’re not welcome, and most obviously feel more welcome in the Sunbelt.
