Libya, still struggling with militias and assassinations, announces ‘full solidarity’ with Palestinians

Outlawed militias continue to be a problem in Libya, as evidenced by the assassination of Col. Faraj Mohammed Idris Drissi, the head of Benghazi’s security directorate.

The Libya Herald, a daily newspaper in English, blamed “outlaws of armed brigades” for the assassination while the Associated Press blamed "Islamic extremists."

The Herald said Drissi was the 18th senior security official murdered in Benghazi in 2012.

On Monday, the only female serving on the Benghazi Local Council resigned, citing “obvious and unfair hindrance practiced by some local officials…”

Meanwhile, the Libyan government  the Obama administration helped to create has announced “full solidarity” with Palestinians “over Israel’s attacks on Gaza.”

Israel, however, has been under attack from Hamas, the group that holds power in Gaza. Hamas has been noted as a terrorist group by a number of governments including the U.S.

The Israel Defense Forces website said:

Since Israel withdrew from the Gaza Strip in 2005, terrorists have fired more than 8,000 rockets into Israel. Over one million Israelis are currently living under threat of rocket attacks.

As President Barack Obama’s secretary of state Hillary Clinton said during a trip to Israel, a “durable outcome” is desired, but most observers of foreign affairs realize that a durable outcome is impossible in the present climate.

Hamas’ covenant specifically specifies Israel as a permanent target:

“Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it.”

The covenant also says:

“The Day of Judgment will not come about until Moslems fight Jews and kill them. Then, the Jews will hide behind rocks and trees, and the rocks and trees will cry out: ‘O Moslem, there is a Jew hiding behind me, come and kill him.’”

Underscoring the hatred of Jews, a video is currently making rounds on the Internet. Provided by MEMRI, the video features a beautiful Egyptian child identified as “child preacher Ibrahim Adham.” The video aired on Al-Rahma TV on November 16, 2012.

Just as German youth were taught to hate Jews in the 1930s, many youth in Islamist theocracies are taught the same. The child preacher said:

Oh Zionists, we love death for the sake of Allah, just as much as you love life for the sake of Satan.

How Mrs. Clinton or Obama plan to negotiate with that mindset remains undetermined. The United Nations is also volatile, with increasing anti-U.S. and anti-Israel influences apparent to all but the Obama administration.
