Obama adviser Sperling following boss’ lead on global minimum tax

Sperling's idea for a global minimum tax is in line with other global taxes sought by Democrats. (Screen snip from video at Weekly Standard)Not long ago a friend of mine asked me why in the world I’m not a Democrat. She meant that as a compliment.

I told her Democrats have morphed into many things, and the biggest thing I see is that they’ve become tax libertines.

I also told her I’m pretty much a straight down the line conservative on fiscal and national security issues and I believe it is critical to downsize our overgrown government.

She went into her usual spiel about helping the poor and I told her I’m quite satisfied doing that through charitable donations and actual personal deeds.

The Weekly Standard has a story up that perfectly illustrates my points. Aside from gouging the so-called rich (usually pegged at $250k a couple by the Left) by touting the Warren Buffett rule, President Barack Obama’s National Economic Council director wants a global minimum tax. Why? Gene Sperling said:

“[S]o that people have the assurance that nobody is escaping doing their fair share as part of a race to the bottom or having our tax code actually subsidized and facilitate people moving their funds to tax havens.”

Give the policy wonk credit for one of the most convoluted ideas an overpaid federal adviser ever had.

Sperling, it’s useful to recall, was complicit in the financial meltdown, having helped repeal Glass-Steagall (Financial Modernization Bill) under epic financial deregulator President Bill Clinton. Frankly, I think Sperling and anyone else who played a part in that debacle (especially former Sen. Chris Dodd) should be in jail instead of continuing to collect a federal salary from taxpayers after doing a lousy job, but common sense isn’t held in high regard these days.

Thing is, Sperling’s idea for a global minimum tax is in line with his boss’ thinking and that of other Democrats. One of the first things Democrats did after gaining absolute control of the government with the election of President Barack Obama (they already owned the House and Senate) was to open the door for the United Nations to tax Americans. That was in 2009 and I was a lonely voice in trying to bring it to your attention.

You’ve heard the phrase ‘outsourcing jobs.’ Thing is, these Democrats want to outsource your wealth, meager or large.

Sen. James Inhofe introduced an amendment to stop it, but he was shot down. Inhofe (Okla.) is a Republican.

The World Health Organization has also lobbied for a tax on Americans.

I heard Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid say he didn’t see how any Hispanic could be a Republican.

Well, Harry, I don’t see how any American with a grain of sense could be a Democrat these days.

Personally, I think we ought to outsource Sperling.
