Florida GOP Women will roast a celeb, grill would-be senators at conference

The Florida Federation of Republican Women will hold a first-ever celebrity roast as part of their 62nd Annual Board of Directors gathering in Tallahassee at Hotel Duval. The roast won’t be the only first-ever—the group is also sponsoring a debate among the candidates vying for the nomination to oppose a Democrat, Sen. Bill Nelson, in the 2012 General Election.

Besides those two events, the conference also includes the Real Women Shoot Back 2nd Amendment event comprising a Lipstick Shoot, BBQ Picnic, a self-defense class, a gun safety class and a concealed weapons class.

You might say these women are prepared for anything.

The subject of the roast on Sunday evening is FFRW Man of the Year, Mike Hightower. A release from FFRW rounds out details:

“Celebrity roasters include Lt. Governor Jennifer Carroll, former Republican Party of Florida Chairs Carole Jean Jordan and Tom Slade, as well as Congressman David Rivera, Representative Dennis Baxley and Steve Bousquet of The St. Petersburg Times. Attorney General Pam Bondi and other elected officials will also be in attendance.

‘The roast will be a great opportunity to have fun honoring our Man of the Year and Mike's celebrated political involvement, his impact on our party and his support of the grassroots - especially the efforts of Republican women statewide,’ said Cindy Graves, President of FFRW.”

The 62nd annual meeting is  a four day event for leadership of the Florida Federation of Republican Women held in Tallahassee. The goal of the meeting is to provide training, determine legislative policies and plan grassroots leadership programs for the 2012 election cycle. The conference begins Saturday, Feb. 18, and concludes on Tuesday, Feb. 21.

The first-ever Senatorial Debate will be held on Sunday afternoon.

Tickets may be purchased for specific events; full details are provided on the FFRW website.
