Ryan: Rights come from “nature and God,” not government

Photo: Camera shot of TV screenPaul Ryan took center stage on Saturday in Norfolk (Va.) after presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney announced Ryan as the pick for vice president. Ryan got right down to business after he segued into his speech, saying, “Our rights come from nature and God, not government.”

Conservatives and Libertarians welcomed that statement; it was long past time for the central premise of American liberty to enter the conversation, especially during  a period when America has a president and Senate flagrantly dismissive of limits on federal powers.

Ryan will certainly face a political assault from the Left. He is the direct opposite of the European style socialist model Democrats have diligently worked towards for years.

During President Barack Obama’s healthcare summit, Ryan pointed out the truth about what we should be calling the ObamaCare tax bill—using social security revenue to offset spending was one of many problems.  Ryan pointed out the elimination of Medicare Advantage, the double counting of revenue, the “gimmicks” and the eventual reduction in physicians willing to treat the elderly.

During the healthcare summit, Ryan enlightened Obama about the double-dipping and accounting gimmicks Democrats wrote into the ObamaCare tax bill. (Snip from YouTube video)Ryan also pointed out the Medicare “doc fix.” Congress never wants to count the cost of that and in fact, Congress doesn’t. They pass a fix after the budget is passed. Of course, that’s when the Republicans pass a budget in the House because Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) didn’t bother to pass one for years in the Senate controlled by Dems before and after Obama took office.

As Ryan spoke during that summit, there was a look of both anger and incredulity on Obama’s face, suggesting the president may not have known what was in the healthcare tax bill Democrats ultimately passed with most of their members in Congress not even bothering to read the bill.

No one has ever asked Obama whether he actually read the bill that was the cornerstone of his first term in office.

Ryan was the perfect pick. His entry into the race brings a new dimension to the conversation—the role of government, limitations on federal powers and a man unafraid to take on the hard job of reducing the runaway spending and waste Obama, Reid and other Democrats could care less about.

As Obama travels the country preaching a doctrine of robbing those he calls “the wealthy” to justify a tax hike in the interest of more blind spending, Ryan has the opportunity to take the stage and be one of the adults in the room. Ryan has already pointed out the decrease in our standard of living under Obama whose policy has contributed to a decrease in disposable income for every American, something even President Jimmy Carter didn't do.

There’s a contrast so sharp you’d have to be dull-witted to not see it. The Obama team focuses on spending more and confiscating more money from Americans rather than spending reform and getting out of the way of job creators and producers.

Ryan said:

"We can turn this thing around.  Real solutions can be delivered.  But, it will take leadership.  And the courage to tell you the truth."

Most conservatives applauded Romney’s decision.

The US Report congratulates the Romney-Ryan camp—“America’s Comeback Team.”
