When it comes to their wallets, Americans will find out soon enough that the ObamaCare Tax Bill will tank the middle class, tax dollar by tax dollar.
The Internal Revenue Service has been busy making plans to hire thousands of health cops and the agency has been tasked with coming up with formulas to determine how much of a “penalty” tax you will pay if you either can’t afford to buy a policy or choose not to buy one.
The figures aren’t going to make very many people happy.
CNS News did several articles about the ObamaCare Tax Bill:
- The cheapest policy will be in the $20,000 range for a family of 5. Most will need a tax preparer to help figure out the language, and most can hope their policy will meet federal standards that aren’t even complete yet. Those standards have been tasked to bureaucrats at the Dept. of Health and Human Services.
- On insuring children, many of us applauded being able to add college students to our policies, but now, even if you don’t have custody of your child, you better hope he or she gets insurance because you will pay for the lapse. By 2016 the tax could top $2,000. Meanwhile, you can hope people will continue to smoke because the government’s insurance program for children relies on those smoker taxes for funding—in effect, it’s built on a house of cards.
- Bear in mind that Democrats decided to take over U.S. healthcare in order to serve a small sector of the U.S. population. For example, one study found that roughly 25 percent of the uninsured chose to be uninsured.
As facts emerge about the tax bill people like Rep. Nancy Pelosi and other Democrats crafted, the federal government admitted paying out more than $60 billion in “improper payments,” largely through Medicare, Medicaid and the children's insurance program. You can rest assured no federal bureaucrat will be fired.
As Democrats and their propaganda machine (legacy media) lobbied for the health tax bill, they never once mentioned facts about who was uninsured. No media asked a single question about it.
Regarding that 25 percent who chose not to be insured, here’s a telling revelation [boldface added]:
“[They] are eligible for Medicaid and the State Children's Health Insurance Program (S-CHIP), but haven't enrolled. This includes 64 percent of all uninsured children, and 29 percent of parents with children. Since these people would be enrolled in those programs automatically if they went to the hospital for care, calling them uninsured is really a smokescreen.”
The best option we have for dealing with Obama and the Democrats’ health tax bill is to lobby our state legislatures and governors to nullify the bill. I noticed in the IRS excerpt CNS published the federal agency used the word “penalty” to describe your punishment if you lack insurance. That language is illegal, as the U.S. Supreme Court pointed out. Making a liar out of every Democrat in the land, SCOTUS said that to be legal, you had to call it a “tax.”
Somebody tell IRS and the health cops.
By the way, if you’re a low info Democrat voter who believes the poor won’t be affected, you don’t know your party very well. As Reason magazine pointed out in the March, 2013 print issue, a family of four earning as little as $24,000 a year will face a tax of $2,085 if they don’t buy insurance.
Welcome to our “Knave New World.”
