Speculation continues about journalist’s death after leaked email alleging Obama targeted journalists

New footage from a surveillance video captured Hastings’ accident. (Snip: Infowars)Michael Hastings’ death, like his life, was full of drama and intrigue. Hastings, the journalist reportedly working on an expose about CIA director John Brennan, died in June in a car accident.

The car exploded; one witness said Hastings was traveling at a high rate of speed.

Now more questions are arising after new video of the accident has been released and leaked emails have surfaced.

San Diego 6 TV reporter Kimberly Dvorak confirmed on Tuesday that Brennan was the subject of Hastings’ next investigative project. Dvorak also revealed an email from WikiLeaks claiming Brennan was in charge of President Barack Obama’s “witch-hunt on investigative journalists.”

A leaked email dating to Sept., 2010, suggested the White House would go after anyone who published work critical of Obama’s policies.

New information recently emerged about the early morning car accident, and the speed of the car. Now it appears that Hastings was traveling around 35 mph.

San Diego 6 recounted one witness’ claim that Hastings’ car exploded “BEFORE” the impact from hitting a tree.

Despite the impact, there wasn’t much damage to the tree Hastings’ car hit.

Dvorak said FOIA [Freedom of Information Act] requests had been filed with the Los Angeles Police Dept., and “numerous FOIAs have been filed with other federal agencies concerning details of Hastings’ suspicious car ‘accident.’”

Infowars reported:

Hastings sent an email hours before his death stating he was “onto a big story” and needed “to go off the rada[r] for a bit.” A separate close friend of Hastings also told Infowars that the journalist’s home was visited by agents from an unnamed federal agency the day before his death.

Hastings’ wife told San Diego 6 that Rolling Stone magazine will publish the writer’s article on Brennan in a future issue.

Brennan has faced harsh criticism from both sides of the aisle for the Obama drone program.

Hastings’ expose on General Stanley McChrystal in 2010 led the general to resign his post. Rumors had circulated prior to the article about McChrystal’s clashes with politicos in the White House.

Speculation followed Hastings’ death shortly after it happened because of the nature of his work, and information that followed continued to spark questions.

San Diego 6 said:

The release of a new surveillance video from a nearby Italian restaurant by Michael Krikorian, an author, freelance blogger who also writes for LA Weekly, reveals a lot of information about Hastings’ final seconds.

Krikorian has followed Hastings’ story on a regular basis. On Aug. 9, Krikorian said the L.A. coroner’s toxicology tests on Hastings should be completed “within two weeks.”
