9.12 March on Washington—Tea Party protesters head to capital
Thursday, August 27, 2009 at 4:25PM The Tea Party Express launches Friday in San Francisco and will then travel across the US to Washington. The official website
has a preliminary agenda up for the 9.12.09 March on Washington. Thousands of activists will converge from a number of grassroots groups to let Congress and the president witness a peaceful but firm statement about fiscal conservatism.
Dick Armey, Matt Kibbe, Yaron Brook, Lloyd Marcus, Steve Baldwin and Mario Lopez are among dozens of speakers listed on the prelim. I’ve seen most of these people on TV. All are engaging speakers and entertainers. Members of Congress will also be part of the gathering—Rep. Michelle Bachmann and Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) will speak at the Saturday rally, and speakers for the Doctors’ Rally include Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-Ga.) and Tom Price.
One of the sponsor organizations, FreedomWorks, is chaired by Dick Armey, former majority leader in the US House. Matt Kibbe is FW president.
March organizers came up with a donation gadget telling you where your money will be spent. For instance if you donate $45, you see what that covers specifically, like a foot of barricade.

March organizers on the logo: "We have to make sure this is a protest against what’s going on in DC, and we have to convey that image to the country and the world. I fear that if we start to lose that edge, the politicians won’t take us as seriously, and will write us off. We’ve been studying and applying the tactics of the left for a long time, and although we despise their bad ideas, they have us beat when it comes to symbolism, activism and dominating the public debate. We can learn from them and co-opt their symbols, some of their messages and even their tactics."A recent news release gave the reason for the protest season: “Over the last six months the national debt skyrocketed by nearly $3 trillion. According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, our national debt will more than double by 2019. Americans will have to pay for this stratospheric spending spree first by begging foreign nations to buy our bonds, and later through higher taxes and inflation.”
In addition to FreedomWorks, national co-sponsors include Citizens Against Government Waste, Tea Party Patriots, ResistNet, National Taxpayers Union, Americans For Tax Reform, Young Americans for Liberty, Ayn Rand Center, Campaign for Liberty, Free Republic, Young America’s Foundation, Smart Girl Politics, The Club for Growth and others.
The capital event will kick off on September 10th and 11th with various events throughout Washington, including grassroots leadership training and Capitol Hill visits. The three-day event culminates on September 12th as taxpayers march on the Capitol building.
The release said, “Grassroots anger at the inability of Washington to live within a budget has been building for some time, and began to boil over in late 2007 as the Bush Administration and Treasury Secretary Paulson abandoned their claimed free market principles to bail out auto makers and Wall Street banks through TARP."

Why would they invite Marsha Blackburn to speak? She is the Queen of Pork and has voted for More Government and Less Freedom than any 7th district congressman here in TN in a long time.
Economic Stimulus. H.R. 5140, the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008, passed 385-35 on January 29, 2008 (Roll Call 25). It would provide about $150 billion in economic stimulus, including $101.1 billion in direct payments of rebate checks (typically $600) to most taxpayers in 2008 and temporary tax breaks for businesses. Creating money out of thin air and then spending the newly created money cannot improve the economy, at least not in the long term. (If it could, why not create even more money for rebates and make every American a millionaire?) The stimulus has no offset and thus increases the federal deficit by the amount of the stimulus because the government must borrow the rebate money. A realistic long-term stimulus can only be achieved by lowering taxes through less government and by reducing regulatory burdens. Prescription Drug Benefit.
The final version (conference report) of H.R. 1 would create a prescription drug benefit for Medicare recipients. Beginning in 2006, prescription coverage would be available to seniors through private insurers for a monthly premium estimated at $35. There would be a $250 annual deductible, then 75 percent of drug costs up to $2,250 would be reimbursed. Drug costs greater than $2,250 would not be covered until out-ofpocket expenses exceeded $3,600, after which 95 percent of drug costs would be reimbursed. Low-income recipients would receive more subsidies than other seniors by paying lower premiums, having smaller deductibles, and making lower co-payments for each prescription. The total cost of the new prescription drug benefit would be limited to the $400 billion that Congress had budgeted earlier this year for the first 10 years of this new entitlement program. The House adopted the conference report on H.R. 1 on November 22, 2003 by a vote of 220 to 215 (Roll Call 669).
