CNN's Sanchez to DeMint: 'What the hell does that mean?'
Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at 5:00PM Rick Sanchez, CNN pundit, doesn't understand the concept of freedom.Shortly after Sen. Arlen Specter “thrilled” President Barack Obama by jumping the fence to join the Democratic Party, CNN pundit Rick Sanchez interviewed South Carolina senator Jim DeMint. Sanchez led with predictable comments such as Republicans are making it hard for Republicans to get elected and the GOP is shrinking the electorate. DeMint pointed out the GOP has the “biggest tent of all—the tent of freedom.”
Sanchez erupted. “What the hell does that mean? The biggest tent is freedom?” Then he shrieked. “Freedom? You gotta’ do better than that!” I must mention CNN pundits often ask a subject a question but foam at the mouth before the subject can answer the question.
“What has worked in America is free people, free markets,” DeMint said.
If you’re one of those small government conservatives on the Department of Homeland Security alert list, you know exactly what DeMint is talking about. If you’re a leftwing extremist who refuses to see what socialism has done in poor neighborhoods, you cannot possibly understand freedom.
If you’ve ever stood by someone in a hospital as that person learned his medical care would be rationed, with a cap set whether he had recovered fully or not despite the fact he not only had Medicare but even had a private supplemental policy, you begin to understand freedom. If you realize that in order to get the social security benefits you paid for you absolutely must buy Medicare (or lose your social security), you begin to understand freedom.
If you realize you may be on a DHS watchlist because you oppose big government and uphold the US Constitution, you understand freedom.
RedState sums it up: “This February, Specter was one of only three Republicans in the U.S. Senate to vote in favor of President Obama’s (D) $787,000,000,000.00 “stimulus” spending bill. No House Republicans, and not all House Democrats, supported the “stimulus” legislation, and Specter, along with Maine Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, provided the GOP votes that enabled the measure to pass the Senate and be signed into law by Obama.”
What exactly has that “stimulus” accomplished? A skate board park? Funds to favored political organizations who turn around and dole favors out to their faithful? The stimulus bill amounted to supporter payback; nothing more nothing less.
Sanchez cannot possibly understand the simplicity of freedom—freedom to make choices and live with them. So it’s no surprise this pundit, who by the way blamed rightwing TV and radio analysts for the Pittsburgh cop-killer’s actions, cannot understand what DeMint is talking about. Sanchez can only understand the promises (and that standard Democratic pickup line “hope”) big government makes on the backs of those who work hard and live within their means. Freedom perplexes Sanchez because it isn’t complicated. He will understand the lack of it though when all the social engineering the current Congress is enacting comes to fruition, because it is my opinion the Democratic members of our current Congress not only don’t understand freedom, they are hostile to it. And our children will learn soon enough their parents’ government leaders built a government too large to manage and far too large to sustain.
Sanchez’s ‘What the hell” is just another example of leftwing media pumping up the Democratic Party, blindly following doctrines that have already weakened this country and will continue to do so for years to come.
Specter's defection was no surprise; he would be facing a strong challenger, Pat Toomey, in the Primary.
The GOP has an astounding opportunity as the DNC savors the fruits of its labor. Hopefully GOP leaders will see that opportunity and capitalize on it. America really does need a party that can put the country first. Many of those who were part of the GOP downturn are no longer in office. Would that Democrats would be smart enough to toss some of their sharks back into the political lagoon.
And would that CNN hired pundits who at least have a shard of professional standards.

CNN needs to hire someone who can be a little less biased, isn't that what reporting is supposed to be? Sanchez and DeMint show their total lack of awareness of things as they really are. They only see things as they wish them to be. That can be very dangerous territory.
