Defense for Harry at WaPo but he’s only half the Democrat scandal

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s defense is in full swing, with select Democrat-friendly media assisting. The Washington Post led yesterday with the header, “Racial comments prove Steele and Reid aren’t so different after all.”

Say what?

Reid’s prejudice is really only half of the Democrat scandal. But we have to start somewhere so we’ll start with the assault on Steele. It's a textbook example of media bias.

WaPo writes a defense of Reid’s remarks about the political worth of Afro/Anglo-American President Barack Obama’s light skin, inexplicably focusing on the first Afro-American chair of the Republican National Committee.

And the writer totally skews an episode from July, 2009, clipping just enough content from Steele’s remarks at the Young Republicans Convention in Indianapolis.

Apparently WaPo followed an anti-Steele blogger’s account of a situation without viewing the video the blogger shot. The video compared with the blogger’s text could be a Saturday Night Live skit because the blogger was actually the culprit with the prejudice in our opinion and the video reflects poorly on the blogger rather than Steele.

COLLARD GREENS, STEELE AND A LEFTWING BLOGGER
We did a column about collard greens and Steele shortly thereafter—someone off camera at the convention told Steele, “I’ll bring the collard greens.” [That’s what it sounds like to us].

And Steele laughs, welcoming all to the GOP, answering, “I got the fried chicken and potato salad.”

Funny how that works when you tell what really did happen instead of what you need to happen to run interference for leftwing evangelism.

NEWSPAPER: INFLUENCE FOR SALE--$250 K A POP
It doesn’t surprise us, though. After all, WaPo offered to sell access to Democrat elite for up to $250,000 a pop until the one person with brains at the paper put a stop to it.

And you wonder why newspapers are tanking?

Reid has a long line of shameless defenders within his party and in the private political economy.

But however you spin the speaker’s defense, it’s clear the Nevada Democrat likes his Afro-Americans light-skinned. That particular prejudice is positively ancient. Maybe we could spend some taxpayer bucks on sensitivity training for Reid.

THE EDWARDS SOAP OPERA: REALITY D.C.
The Reid soapbox opera is lots of fun, but we are overlooking the other half of the scandal sizzler. As media mounted an anxiety-laden attack to take then Alaska governor Sarah Palin down, candidate and former Dem senator John Edwards was mounting an attack of his own (of sorts). New York Magazine ran an excerpt from the hottest book in the land, ‘Game Change’ (John Heilemann & Mark Halperin ).

TV might be dull right now but Book Land is as hot as a heat pump down in Florida during the current cold spell. You can read all about Edwards’ dalliances with a New Age gal, his campaign meltdown and his hypocrisy. He was having a blast with another woman even as he projected family values to the nation.

Now it’s none of our business who you decide to sleep with, but there is an exception. You want to be the U.S. president, you should remain faithful for at least one term. National security and all that.

Reminder to politicians: a marriage is a contract.

The National Enquirer broke the Edwards story and in a perfect world, that paper would get a Pulitzer for telling the truth about a man who came dangerously close to the presidency. Toss in the fact he actually got a friend to claim paternity for a kid the friend didn’t father [the book said this guy had a vasectomy]. Politics do indeed make strange bedfellows.

WHEREBY REID ADDRESSES AFRICAN AMERICANS
Meanwhile, back at the spin farm, Reid is gearing up for his African-Americans for Harry Reid event this week. Talk about Saturday Night Live fodder. Maybe Reid can clarify his statements so those who aren’t light-skinned will understand exactly what he meant.

The US Census Bureau gives an idea of Reid's constituency of color: "By 2025, non-Hispanic Whites would comprise 60.4 percent of Nevada's population, down from 75.7 percent in 1995.  Non-Hispanic African Americans would comprise 7.7 percent of the state population in 2025, up from 6.7 percent in 1995."

Dem strategists and select Washington politicians are telling us Reid has been a good friend to African-Americans with his policies and voting record.

DEMOCRAT IMPACT ON BLACK COMMUNITY
Yeah. Look at the state of the black community and look at all the Democrats have done for them. Praise song for the blog.

Consider this. Wouldn’t you think a party would be proud of helping just plain old Americans whether we’re brown, black, white or that dangerous but lovely shade of caramel we get from the sun?

Wouldn’t you think real leaders would focus on what’s good for the country rather than pander to a segment of the population with votes strictly for the benefit of politics?

Wouldn’t you think a voter could look at his or her state and figure out federal policies are breaking the bank and no matter who you are, it’s gonna hurt when the bill comes due?

Reid has said he’s sorry, and we’d agree with him on that particular choice of words.
