Did Wasserman Schultz’s answer on health mandate surprise insurance companies?
Friday, April 9, 2010 at 9:36AM I first saw this sitcom on Facebook and then bumped into it at Red State. Now I’m putting it here because if you could frame a video as an example of pure political posturing, this one would slap itself right on the wall.
A constituent at a townhall meeting asks Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) who gave her the right to make him purchase “healthcare.” He means insurance, I’m sure.
And the congresswoman goes, “We actually have not required in this law that you carry health insurance…”
She then does the Democrat shuffle, explaining if you choose not to carry it, that just changes your tax status.
She doesn’t use the word ‘fine,’ or ‘penalty.’ [Article continues after video.]
Do a search using the term ‘health insurance mandate.’
Maybe the leftwing congresswoman could have a chat with her Democrat kin and they could at least get on the same page.
Wasserman Schultz’s response gives an idea of what leftwing politicians really think of their constituents.
I can just imagine what this will be like—there’ll be a new IRS form for long form filers. Form 4878R (as in ripoff) will tell you to compute your income, multiply by .28, subtract line 15 from line 24, put the total on line 31 and then refer to instructions on page 100 to see if you qualify for a subsidy.
That’s after you fill out the form to determine whether your policy meets government standards. I can just imagine the federal revenue windfall they’ll reap because you can betcha’ some policies won’t qualify.
Her constituents can thank her years from now when the quality of healthcare declines and the government will have to increase visas to bring in foreign docs for those on government insurance.
Sidenote to Dems: how ‘bout a little social justice for the people who actually pay taxes that fund all those Utopian programs you guys cook up?
The flip side is maybe you can go apply for one of those thousands of health cop positions the IRS will establish to carry out the MANDATE. As a civilian federale, your salary should be in the $71,000 range.
And if you’re one of the health insurance lobbyists who influenced the Democrat bill after that party handed you a captive consumer audience, be warned. That audience may not be as captive as you believed when you agreed to “free preventive care.” Surprised?
A gold cyber-star goes to Lori Ziganto who wrote about Wasserman Schultz's response in a column at Red State: "Actually, I think I’ll say 'Liar, Liar, Skirt on fire' just to tick off her feminist sensibilities."
Amen to that, sister.
