Jax GOP program to focus on fixing a broken healthcare system

Rick Scott is founder of Conservatives for Patients' Rights. [Screen shot from CPR website.] The Duval County Republican Party is sponsoring a free program about healthcare, ‘Protecting Patients’ Rights While Fixing a Broken System.’ The program will be held Thurs. June 25, from 7-9 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of Police Hall, 5530 Beach Blvd., in Jacksonville. Guests must pre-register for this event by either using the form on the Duval County GOP website or by emailing your name, address and phone number with a list of attendees to info[at] jaxgop.org. If you email, please use the words ‘Healthcare Reform’ in the subject line.

Guest speaker is Rick Scott, co-founder and chairman of Solantic Corporation. Scott is a former CEO of HCA/Columbia, and a capable opponent in what some perceive as the government healthcare war. Few in Congress from either party are brave enough to criticize a president with the level of media support President Barack Obama commands. Scott is founder of Conservatives for Patients' Rights.

Lenny Curry is chairman of the Duval County Republican Party. The Jax GOP is headed by Lenny Curry, and many conservatives would like to see the organization’s success replicated nationally. Curry manages to bring together various factions within the party with a unique leadership style that perfectly illustrates the “big tent” Republicans are prone to mention. Curry and state committeewoman Cindy Graves anchor a popular radio show ‘What’s the Buzz?’ on AM 1320; the show can also be heard online.

At present, approximately 50 percent of all healthcare spending is covered by local, state and federal governments. As government has acquired more of the healthcare market, costs have risen for private plans.

The health care reform program will also offer information about healthcare practiced in countries like Canada and Great Britain where some have advocated lap band surgery for obese children. In December, Great Britain was forced to close wards in some hospitals when they could not keep up with patient demand during a breakout of the Norovirus.

As Congress works on healthcare legislation, the GOP healthcare program will offer valuable information for those who do not want further government encroachment into the most private issue related to personal liberty.
