I’m asking supporters of the McCain-Palin ticket for president to join me on Wednesday evening (Oct. 29) in a boycott of these TV stations: CBS, NBC and Fox (not Fox News, but the regular Fox channel). Sen. Barack Obama has purchased one–half hour of airtime Wednesday evening, in the same manner Ross Perot did in the 1990s. It gave me the creeps then and it gives me the creeps now. A presidential candidate securing three major networks—well that makes me think of state-run TV stations in certain oppressive countries. While I understand the Obama-Biden ticket’s right to purchase that airtime, I also understand the right for many of us who don’t support that ticket to boycott those stations that night. We can in effect implement a silent protest. And there are a few things I'd like to share with you about our options.
For starters, be sure to vote. There’s a proliferation of polls this year, and most of them have a sizable independent group not stating a preference. It’s my opinion many indies are not going to tell a pollster they’re voting for McCain—I certainly wouldn’t. I don’t want to be thought of as racist, and that charge has been levied by media and Democratic surrogates eager to gain control of my country for one political party. This election isn’t over until we cast our votes. And by the way, if the Obama campaign is so confident about that landslide, why are they purchasing all that airtime?
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) addressed an audience at Google this week and urged voters to help her party secure control of Congress and the presidency. Somehow Pelosi interprets that state of the nation as more “bipartisan.” Rarely does this woman make sense but this is perhaps her finest nonsensical moment. She also promised a country that’s “fiscally sound.” Remember Pelosi’s own state is extremely broke right now, and a number of other states run by ‘progressives’ aka ‘liberals’ are in the same boat.
If you support a nanny state where the federal government controls you from birth to the grave, vote a Democratic ticket. If you believe in sending welfare checks (Dems call them 'tax credits') to people who don’t pay taxes, vote a Democratic ticket. If you believe in government control of your 401k, with 5 percent of your wages taken off the top (if the House Education and Labor committee has its way), vote Democratic. If you believe in rationing healthcare, in increased taxes (remember the Bush tax cuts will be repealed), and trickling money down to people who already receive the lion’s share of federal government entitlement spending, vote a Democratic ticket. And note: the Bush tax cuts actually resulted in a tax increase for many of those with high incomes. No candidate from either party will mention that, by the way.
But if you’re a traditional American who believes each of us are responsible for ourselves, who believes we should definitely help those who cannot help themselves but hold those who can accountable, consider the McCain-Palin ticket. If you’re a small business person filing as a proprietorship and you don’t want federal government mandates, vote McCain-Palin. Most of all, if you want national security, vote McCain-Palin. Recall how the Clinton administration handled terrorism and what that led to. McCain-Palin addresses policy to all Americans with a focus on the future.
It's my opinion the Democratic ticket will return us to the 1960s, focusing on divisiveness rather than unity. After all the campaign has done that already.
Above all, disregard the pollsters. Disregard the media—many have admitted their coverage has been biased. Their own wakeup day will come if they get their wishes. While Pelosi and her Democratic fellows tout their superiority in running this country, remember this if you don't remember anything else:
- 1954-1994: Democrats controlled Congress
- 1994-2006: GOP controlled Congress
- 2006-present: Democrats control Congress
In a 54 year period, Dems had the helm for 42 of those years.
Go vote and make your voice heard. Vote early in states where that’s an option. And join me in the Wednesday boycott. Don't let media elect our president. Or our Congress either.

Great post. I didn't know about the purchase. I will definitely be turning off the TV. Thanks for the heads up!
Beth, glad you like. And tell everyone you know to vote. The polls can be discouraging, but remember the percentages of uncommitted/don't know responses. Therein lies the victory (and the mystery), in my opinion.
I'm hoping McCain-Palin supporters will be part of our silent protest. The thought of a politician buying 30 minutes of airtime really does give me the creeps--I still remember Perot doing that. We didn't watch that one either.
