Numbers lady has Obama’s life path number—or does she?

The blogosphere is pushing President-Elect Barack Obama’s life path number to the front of the conversation, and numerologist Glynis McCants’ appearance on the George Noory Show on Jan. 15 has heated up the talk. McCants says Obama’s life path number is a 2 and already, the website  Women on the Web is confused about how she calculated that number, saying WOW's calculations make him a ‘9.’ Either WOW got the birthdate wrong or they didn’t really delve. My crude calculations based on the helpful website run by numerologist Michael McClain match McCants’. I came up with Obama having a master number of 11—an intensified 2.

Just for fun I calculated the life path numbers of my daughters, my husband and myself. I tossed in a friend’s for good measure. It’s eerie the way those numbers actually reflect each individual’s personality. Commenters at WOW were less than kind about McCants who is known by her fans as “The Numbers Lady.”

Years ago I interviewed a well-known psychic for a newspaper feature story. She wasn’t a numerologist. I was as skeptical about her as I was towards the used car salesman who tried to sell us a dud that died as we tried to leave the car lot. Mary Green was actually a visionary—many eminent people in the state swore by her ability to foretell the future and find lost objects.

Before I interviewed her, I agonized over how to write the story. I did have some belief in people with abilities to know things by unexplained processes. My mother has had a number of experiences which cannot be explained scientifically, not the least of which was a premonition about a very healthy relative’s sudden death. But that’s another story.

I spent an hour with Green. She blew my mind. For one thing, she informed me I was pregnant. I told her there was no way—I’d spent 8 years of marriage deliberately avoiding pregnancy. Six weeks later I discovered I was pregnant. While I distrust most psychics, I came to believe Mary Green definitely had an ability most do not.

When I was in college, I befriended a very educated man who had a doctorate in English. He happened to be a numerology buff. He did my numbers, and most of what he wrote has come true.

You can read about Obama’s number at McClain’s website. Just for fun, calculate your own number. Don’t make the mistake the folks at WOW made. The numbers 11, 22 and 33 are master numbers, so the calculations are a little different for those.

I did my life path number—it’s a 9. I was not overly enthused when I learned I share that number with one of my least favorite presidents Jimmy Carter. McClain wrote, “The Life Path 9 is surprisingly the one number which has failed to produce an above average President.” I promise to never run for president, by the way. Not only because I don’t have the life path number for that job but also because I’m not rich enough and favor speaking my mind.

McCants says she’s studied numerology for 21 years. She has hefty testimonials on her website. In today’s technology driven world, we like to think there’s a scientific explanation for everything. Of course there isn’t. Ultimately we’ll see whether McCants is right about Obama. She’s already been proven right about him once. She predicted he’d win the presidency when she appeared on ‘The View.’ Thank God Obama isn’t a 9.

Barack Obama's stimulus plan is even bigger, laying the groundwork for the next economic boom. The Wall Street Journal calls it "a major win for the high-tech industry" -

Well, I guess we can "hope." But I'm not buying a net gain on the administration's economic plan. I predict a bubble followed by a bust, in the traditions of Roosevelt, Carter and Clinton.
