Obama fakes the ball left, passes to right with troop visit, offshore drilling
Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at 10:22AM Robert Reich, economic adviser to President Barack Obama, discouraged 'white male construction' workers from applying for Stimulus jobs.Everyone knows how much our president likes to play basketball. I’m a basketball fan and have enjoyed playing the game as well. One thing I learned early on was how to fake a pass. That came in handy when I was a kid playing basketball at the park in my neighborhood. Bit of nostalgia—the park and my school were funded by the cotton mill. President Barack Obama did a bit of faking and passing this week, starting with a very effective trip to Afghanistan.
Clips streamed all weekend of the commander-in-chief greeting the troops in Afghanistan for the first time. Media claimed they had no prior knowledge.
The visit diverted some attention from Obamacare, [HR 4878, HR 3590] the greatest failure in legislative history in America.
The bill will not “reform healthcare” as promised. Of course, we realized that the moment Obama began to refer to it as “health insurance reform” rather than “healthcare reform.”
Most of us who work realize our premiums will rise, our service will probably be negatively impacted and our country’s debt will rise. It is even more likely fraud will increase. The federal government is a watchdog as lazy as my hound when it comes to fiscal accountability. All I can say is wait until those 26+ somethings who idolize the Democrats see their premiums.
Eventually Americans will realize HR 4878 and HR 3590 are basically a bait and switch.
But that initial fake and pass was followed by another. Obama will now, as Republicans like to say, “Drill, baby, drill!” Of course the regulatory process will be tricky and we have no idea how smoothly this will go, but the decision is a great prelude to the next economic bubble Democrats and corporate allies want to create via Cap and Trade. Carbon credits are something only a bureaucratic mind (or hedge fund manager) can love.
And of course there is massive attention in Democrat friendly media and leftwing blogs (fringewing blogs too). Racism and anger are top of the agenda with one leftwinger writing a column so visionary I can’t imagine the depth of the intellect that wrote it. White men shun Democrats. Imagine that after Obama’s economic adviser Robert Reich uttered that famously underreported statement about white construction workers and the Stimulus money, “I am concerned as I am sure many of you are that these jobs not simply go to high skilled people…or to white male construction workers…I have nothing against white male construction workers…”
And you thought all the racists were Tea Party folks. That’s understandable because the entire platform for the Democrat Party rests on ideological principles of divide and conquer, largely by skin color.
What that writer whose name escapes me did NOT say—black people shun Republicans.
Now you can sort of understand why any thinking person regardless of color would shun today’s Democrat Party. I shun it because I don’t think the federal government runs anything well, including Medicare and Medicaid and the Dems most definitely have socialist tendencies. I don’t see why they don’t just admit it because the Party has managed, since taking control of Congress 3 years ago, to acquire broad interests in general banking and lending, auto manufacturing, energy, healthcare and student loans.
But for the life of me I don’t get the blind loyalty of black people to the Democrat Party, especially since it was a Republican president who first addressed the subject of plurality in the US and another Republican president who got the ball moving on civil rights legislation. [Somebody please go tell the Washington Post.] And of course it was a Democrat president who really was a racist who enacted entitlement policies that tanked once vibrant black communities. At least that’s how it happened in my hometown.
We have to hand it to Obama for being the supreme politico. He’s zooming around the world and the country—always the campaigner, that one—and his fake pass routine is proving somewhat effective in Democrat-friendly media. On Tuesday, Rasmussen Reports said,
“Over the past week, 57.1% of media coverage concerning the President has been positive.”
That same Rasmussen Poll showed “30 percent of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve” of Obama’s performance as president. But 43 percent “Strongly Disapprove,” resulting in a negative approval index rating of -13 percent.
Guess it’s time for another Obama fake and pass. Brings the Clinton waffle to mind.
