Olbermann freaks out over Massachusetts--political class hissy fit

Commentary by Kay B. Day

The political class reaction to Scott Brown’s strong showing in Massachusetts (“Teddy Kennedy’s seat”) is well represented by Keith Olbermann’s freakout on MSNBC. Newsbusters recounts the level of Olbermann’s emotional breakdown with the talking head’s remarks on Monday: “In Scott Brown we have an irresponsible, homophobic, racist, reactionary, ex-nude model, teabagging supporter of violence against woman and against politicians with whom he disagrees."

For starters, Olbermann could save his hysteria until the race between Martha Coakley and Brown is over. No one’s actually got it in the bag yet.

Regardless of who wins in Massachusetts where the Kennedys are rather, at least in the perception of those of us on Main Street, like the lords of the manor, name calling isn’t likely to endear your own voters to your Party.

Olbermann’s rant is rather like what you hear between two grade schoolers on the playground. His inability to accept that in the United States, we have the right to disagree with each other over politics suggests his intellect is as deep as a bowl large enough to hold a very small goldfish. A cereal bowl would be perfect.

His preoccupation with the term ‘teabagging’ to describe a hard-working constituency that contributes to this nation every day but disagrees with the tax system and federal government expansion reflects a lack of respect for others. The Tea Party movement is an excellent example of freedom of expression in a democracy. That Olbermann views the movement with such hatred illustrates his lack of understanding of those who live in the real world. Olbermann is true to the core Democrat Party political class.

There are many names, far more creative than Olbermann used in his rant, that  we might apply to members of the Democratic Party. I disagree with most of the legislation they’ve passed since taking Congress in the 2006 elections. I disagree with the Party’s divisive approach—divide and conquer the people of this country in order to sequester wealth and power for the political class. Leftwingers preach hatred and disunity. The Party is incapable of uniting the people of this great country. They call themselves 'progressives.' In reality, they're political neanderthals.

But Olbermann’s reaction is premature. I believe we will know who won “The People’s Seat” as Brown called it within a short time frame only if there is a clear margin. If it’s close we can probably count on the Democrat power structure to tie it up for weeks as they did in Minnesota.

Only when the votes are all in will we have an idea whether the people of Massachusetts have decided to break a monopoly on their state, to return the Kennedy seat to the people. Olbermann's hissy fit is premature.
