**APROPOS US INDEPENDENCE DAY: AYN RAND
Perhaps no other author is more appropriate for the times than Ayn Rand. As government marches the US towards European style socialism or worse, Rand's message resonates.

A favorite passage of many in 'Atlas Shrugged' is a monologue by the character Francisco d'Anconia: "Let me give you a clue to men's characters: the man who damns money has obtained it dishonorably; the man who respects it has earned it...Run for your life from any man who tells you that money is evil. That sentence is the leper's bell of an approaching looter. So long as men live together on earth and need means to deal with one another--their only substitute, if they abandon money, is the muzzle of a gun."

RUBIO RAISES MORE THAN $34 THOUSAND IN 2 DAYS

Marco Rubio, candidate for Republican Primary for US Senate, Florida, spoke to supporters in Jacksonville. Senate Conservatives, a group unaffiliated with Republican campaign committees, has endorsed Rubio. Currently Rubio is challenging Gov. Charlie Crist and Dr. Marion Thorpe for the GOP contender seat.

An email from Marco Rubio's campaign says the candidate raised more than $34 thousand in 2 days online at the end of June, "surpassing our ambitious goal of $125,000 raised online in the second fundraising quarter." Rubio will of course need a big war chest to mount a viable challenge to Gov. Charlie Crist.

Former Arkansasgovernor Mike Huckabee also endorsed Rubio, on the heels of an endorsement from the Senate Conservatives fund.

Patriots pledge to Obama-Biden: Democrats in Congress will spread their own wealth

Shadow the Carolina hound is very excited about voting in the presidential election. He registered through a community organization in Florida.Breaking: Exclusive to The US Report

Democrats in the US Congress are so excited about Sen. Barack Obama’s tax plan to “spread the wealth around” some have agreed to contribute 10 percent of their personal wealth to the U.S. Treasury. These Democrats have also earmarked 5 percent of total donations for ACORN and other community groups. One senator got so excited she gave  a developer two acres of land she bought at a distressed auction. Section 8 vouchers can be used to provide low income residents a safe place to live. The senator plans to build a multiplex and will utilize resources available through Freddie Mac. “I can’t wait 'til the people in that little subdivision meet their new neighbors!” she said. Asked if there were plans to build a multiplex in her own neighborhood, the senator explained, "Oh, no--it's a zoning thing. A multiplex would never be allowed in my neighborhood."

Fighting for a place in the voluntary donor line were members listed on Roll Call’s ’50 Richest Members of Congress List.’ An unnamed source said, “John Kerry and Nancy Pelosi almost knocked each other down trying to get to the head of the line.”

These members will personally hand deliver a check to the US Treasury, with no strings attached as long as it benefits the ‘middle class’ Obama is so dedicated to, beginning with his community organizing days on the still crime-ridden south side of Chicago.

It is hoped that Obama and Sen. Joe Biden will participate as well since both say serving their country has enabled them to achieve the American dream.  However, more is actually expected of the richest members as well, because as Roll Call notes:

The disclosure rules allow Members to report assets in broad categories, so there is no way to tell the difference between a $20 million investment and a $5 million investment. The top category on the Members’ forms is “over $50 million,” so it is impossible to accurately account for anything worth more than that — like a professional sports team, for example. There is also a gaping loophole for assets owned by the Members’ spouse or dependent children; anything worth more than $1 million in value can be reported as “over $1 million.” There is no way to tell whether that is $1.2 million or $1.2 billion.

Here are the truly patriotic members of Congress donating 10 percent of their personal assets so that Obama can “spread the wealth.” Those with a net worth of less than $10 million pledged to give $1 million as a goodwill gesture to the new president and to the Democratic Party regaining a chokehold on Congress. Names are listed in order of wealth rank, and the figure shown represents 10 percent of the total reported rounded to the nearest million:

    • Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.): $23 million
    • Rep. Jane Harman (D-Calif.): $22 million
    • Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W. Va.): $8 million
    • Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.): $5 million
    • Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.): $5 million
    • Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.): $5 million
    • Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.): $2 million
    • Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.): $2 million
    • Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.): $2 million
    • Rep. Nita Lowey (D-N.Y.): $2 million
    • Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa): $1 million
    • Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.): $1 million
    • Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas): $1 million
    • Rep. Heath Shuler (D-N.C.): $1 million
    • Rep. John Spratt (D-S.C.): $1 million
    • Rep. Bill Foster (D-Ill.): $1 million
    • Rep. Steve Kagan (D-Wis.): $1 million
    • Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.): $1 million
    • Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-N.M.): $1 million
    • Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.): $1 million
    • Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.): $1 million
    • Sen. Herb Kohl (D-Wis.): $1 million
    • Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.): $1 million

A spokesperson for these patriotic leaders said, “Our members are delighted to offer part of their personal wealth to improve the welfare of our most needy constituents. We are very excited about Sen. Obama’s presidency and we believe our contribution puts our money where our big mouths are when it comes to increasing taxes so that we can spread wealth around.”

The spokesperson also said many actors, singers and comedians will also participate in the contributions. "They raised so much money for Obama, especially with the European fundraisers, they decided to do something to directly benefit the welfare of his voters as well."

Asked if some of the money might help Joe the Plumber purchase the business he’s dreamed of, the spokesperson said, “No, Joe isn’t on the list, although he is on another list I can’t talk about.”

A Republican spokesperson said members of his party are not participating. “It goes against our beliefs to redistribute anybody’s wealth,” he said, adding, “but we are working hard with Sen. John McCain to keep taxes down so businesses can give people jobs instead of a government handout.”

The generous Democrats plan to celebrate their patriotism with a beanie-weenie and keg party on November 5 in an economically distressed neighborhood in the nation's capital. They also plan to donate the millions they originally planned to spend on an election celebration party. An anonymous source said Speaker of the House Pelosi will probably not attend the scaled down gala. “Beans give Nancy gas,” she said.

[Note to readers: Sigh. See the 'Commentary and Satire' tag below? This is satire, for those who are a little slow to come around. It's my experience Democrats never yield their own money as freely as they confiscate our money. The list of Democrats, with  the 10 percent wealth noted, is factual, according to Roll Call. Follow the link under 'References' below.

The photo and caption are also satirical. If he did register, my hound would do so in Jacksonville. And he'd vote for Mccain.]

This is a great post, but in all seriousness, when people are talking about Democrats always wanting to spend others' money but not their own, for real, Senator Biden, with an income average of about $200,000+ per year give an average of $360 per year to charity over the last decade. His tax returns show that 98% of American households in his bracket gave more to charity than Biden. He is free to spend his money however he wants, but I really don't want him to spend mine. Most Americans with income less than half of Biden's give more than $360 per year to their churches alone!. HIs campaign said that he "gives a lot of time to charity & does not always write checks". This explains why I bought some cupcakes from the Bidens last week at my local humane society bake sale.
As VP, AL Gore took it on the chin for raking it in and giving only $300 in charity, and the following two years he & Tipper gave $70 grand. So can we conclude that Democrats a) give when they are spending someone else's money & b) give when they get caught be stingy?
Oh - and the Palin's gave $8,000 to charity in the past 2 years alone despite an income considerably less than the Biden family. If Democrats are really for "spreading the wealth around" maybe they should spread their own.
And I don't think Nancy Pelosi could be any more full of hot air - er - gas.
