Pelosi implies more than 70 percent of Americans 'un-American,' encourages breaking federal laws

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is top of the lead list at present because she called people who want America’s immigration laws enforced “un-American.” Pelosi was speaking at an event organizers say aimed at putting a “human face” on the immigration debate. For most of us, immigration is at the heart of the American melting pot. But illegal entry into the country is not acceptable because such an act not only undermines US law, it creates in these troubled times a security issue and a drain on federal dollars. Illegal entry is not the same as immigration.

I’ve often mentioned the predicament—how do you differentiate those who come here without malice from those intent on harm? And the answer is clear-cut. You can’t because there is no documentation. Another question arises when financials are considered. Is it right to promise some Americans a tax increase, but to use federal dollars to assist those who have in fact broken our nation’s laws, rather than applying those dollars to legal citizens? Does the government have a right to extract tax dollars and give those dollars to people who have broken federal law? Note: I realize that question may also apply to some who serve in our current Congress, but that is an argument for another essay. So how do the numbers crunch?

NUMBERS FROM CIS
The nonpartisan Center for Immigration Studies has an excellent, well-thought analysis on the impact of illegals on the Federal budget. CIS, basing figures on Census Bureau Data for 2002, said, “Households headed by illegal aliens imposed more than $26.3 billion in costs on the federal government in 2002 and paid only $16 billion in taxes, creating a net fiscal deficit of almost $10.4 billion, or $2,700 per illegal household.”

So while it’s true a number of illegals do pay taxes, it’s also true they receive more federal dollars than they pay in. Even with amnesty, the financials look grim. CIS said, “We also estimate that, if there was an amnesty for illegal aliens, the net fiscal deficit would grow to nearly $29 billion.”

Admittedly the figures are more complex than space permits here. Many of those dollars are actually used by children of illegals. The children born here become citizens at birth. CIS notes, “Among the largest costs are Medicaid ($2.5 billion); treatment for the uninsured ($2.2 billion); food assistance programs such as food stamps, WIC, and free school lunches ($1.9 billion); the federal prison and court systems ($1.6 billion); and federal aid to schools ($1.4 billion).”

If you’re interested in a truly objective look at immigration studies (legals and illegals), I highly recommend you do some reading at the CIS website. The organization has been praised by liberals and conservatives.

VIOLENCE ON THE BORDER
Another cause of concern involves the situation on the US-Mexico border. Americans have witnessed video footage of the heinous crimes committed south of the border and there have been more than a few north of the border. Mexico’s drug runners bring in their bounty; criminals based in the US push weapons to the cartels. A round trip of contraband. Many low-income neighborhoods are literally devastated by the drugs those cartels import and by the criminal gangs who sell them.

How many of the weapons runners have been planted here by the cartels? Does a sizable percentage of the weapons sales come from criminal gangs here? We don’t know for sure, although FBI reports indicate criminal gangs rely on drugs and weapons for funding. If a person isn’t documented, there’s little information to go on.

INVASION OF THE STATES
Some Americans call the multitudes pouring into America illegally an invasion. In January, 2000, the Dept. of Homeland Security estimated 8.46 million people in the country illegally. By May, 2008, there were 11.17 million, which actually represented a decrease from levels in August, 2007, when there were 12.49 million. When millions of people enter various US states, ignoring federal laws to do so, the application of the term “invasion” becomes easier to understand. Predictions are that those numbers will increase because of the challenges Mexico confronts in governance, security and economics.

IMPACT ON THE LOWER SOCIO-ECONOMIC CLASS
In America we have serious problems within the lower socio-economic population. I’ve volunteered frequently to work with the underclass, and I often decry the lack of understanding in those whose poverty is partly enabled by entitlement mentality almost to the point of brainwashing.

Uneducated populations seem clueless when it comes to figuring out that directing money to an unskilled labor pool in the country illegally actually transfers resources from the legal population. There are only so many federal dollars, though that may change dramatically if the current administration has its way.

It’s a no brainer to realize that the broader the uneducated underclass, the easier it is to acquire votes by way of entitlements which of course are never enough. Nothing beats education. Nothing beats paying your own way and being independent of the Nanny State. In addition, those who decide the government can care for them will always be disappointed. The government rarely runs a program well; law enforcement and the military are exceptions.

I recall trying to find part-time domestic help when my children were small. I interviewed one woman who seemed to be what I was looking for. She was a US citizen. When I explained to her I’d have to pay social security and such, she literally had a fit. She told me she needed all her money. I explained that if she worked for someone as an independent, then she had to still pay self-employment taxes and social security. She said no way, plus what about her food stamps and the check from the government for her son.

I told her, “You’re cheating yourself. You can’t count under the table money as income if you apply for a loan to buy a car or a home. You won’t get anywhere that way.”

I didn’t get through to her. It was under the table or nothing. I couldn’t hire her. I ended up temporarily relying on a friend who operated a daycare center until my mother’s schedule permitted her to help me out when I had to go catch an interview or shoot photos for a story.

PELOSI ENDORSES BREAKING FEDERAL LAW
For Pelosi to actually encourage illegal entry into this country is unforgivable. She plays to a very liberal constituency so anything she does is likely okay by her voters. But for her to call me “un-American” because I want federal laws that relate to security and taxes obeyed is an insult of the highest order and bespeaks her prostitution of values for pure political gain.

I’d say someone who does not want vital federal laws obeyed is the epitome of “un-American,” especially someone who holds the position of Speaker of the US House of Representatives.

Pelosi is actually encouraging people to break federal laws. She is also encouraging expansion of a vulnerable, uneducated underclass. Advocacy groups ignore the reality of costs and cultural integration. I’ve often wondered if some of those groups are funded by drug cartel money, but that’s a conspiracy theory for another day as well.

Article 4, Section 4, of The U.S. Constitution states: “The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion…”

Obviously, the US government has failed miserably over the last decade, based on the CIS numbers, to uphold the duty set forth in that section. I don’t think that will change any time soon. At present we have a government that, if Pelosi’s wishes are granted, has abandoned its duty to all the people regardless of the rhetoric and politicizing that claim otherwise. Pelosi is a high-profile spokesperson for the Democratic Party, so that suggests she speaks for her colleagues as well.

A Judicial Watch Zogby poll taken in October, 2008 found 71.5% of those polled said they agree local law enforcement officers should enforce federal immigration laws, including 51.5% of Hispanics and 56.2% of self-described "liberals." Pelosi, a significant leader for the Democrats, called them all “un-American.”

This poll shows the American people, no matter their politics or ethnicity, want public officials to enforce federal immigration laws. It is difficult to find any political issue that inspires such unanimity," said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. "The presidential candidates and the media have virtually ignored the illegal immigration issue in this campaign but it remains an important issue to voters. And the message from the American people on immigration is clear: Enforce the law. End san
