That is precisely why the UN is trying to get the U.S. to ratify the Kyoto Protocol, the International Criminal Court, Law of the Sea Treaty, and many others.

The signatory nations have no intentions whatsoever of following the treaties, but we are obligated to by our own laws. For example, the nations that signed the Kyoto Protocol actually increased their CO2 emission levels significantly. The U.S. did not sign the treaty, but had a smaller increase in CO2 emissions than any of the member countries, including Japan. As a whole, non-Kyoto nations actually saw a decrease.

Clearly this is nothing more than an attempt to undermine capitalism and the sovereignty of the United States.
