Read between the lines on $58 billion April surplus the CBO announced

This Congressional Budget Office chart shows the U.S. deficit remains at outrageous levels for the long term. (CBO graph/US Government. Arrow added by TUSR)Headlines touted a budget surplus of $58 billion in April for the U.S. government, good news for President Barack Obama as he goes from low to high gear on his 2012 campaign for reelection.

However, there’s bad news for the U.S. taxpayer because the Congressional Budget Office estimates the Treasury will record a deficit of $721 billion for the first seven months of 2012.

Hey, Sandra—ObamaCare will ‘fluke’ all women

Sandra Fluke’s advocacy for faith-based institutions to cover birth control for employees and students in insurance policies distracted Americans—with help from axis media—from the conversation we should be having. The reality is that the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, commonly known as ObamaCare, will ‘fluke’ all women and men too.

For starters, Fluke’s advocacy will be rendered irrelevant.

Ryan and Cohen a contrast in civility during ObamaCare debate

Updated on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at 10:41AM by Registered CommenterKay B. Day, Editor

After President Barack Obama delivered remarks at a memorial rally for victims in Tucson, I said in a column his call for civility in political debate would challenge the left. Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) and Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) spoke from the House floor about the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act as House Republicans set about repealing the act popularly called ObamaCare. The congressmen present a sharp contrast in civility and the contrast is notable when you compare videos side by side.

Dems and allied media mislead on CBO cost for ObamaCare repeal

Updated on Friday, January 7, 2011 at 1:13PM by Registered CommenterKay B. Day, Editor

Republicans plan to follow through on attempts to repeal ObamaCare, aka the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Democrats and their allied media have stepped up to the plate to defend a bill most of them haven’t read, and their primary defense of the bill is that repealing it will increase the deficit. CNN’s header left no room for debate—“Analysis: Healthcare repeal will cost $230 billion.”

Fact is Democrats and allied media are misleading the public by citing that figure and have conveniently left out numerous cautions and even disclaimers the Congressional Budget Office included in a Jan. 6, 2011 letter to Speaker of the House John Boehner.

Feds had huge revenue increase under GOP

by Kay B. Day

President Barack Obama and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) have many things in common, but their favorite commonality is blaming Republicans whenever a challenge arises, especially when it comes to federal spending and taxes. Never mind the impact of their own earmark requests, or of their own Party’s spending increases and ridiculous budgets (or lack of one at present). So here for your amusement are a few facts straight from the US Government. [Story continues below photo.]

Caption on this photo taken at Camp Lee, Va., said: “Even as you and I, the soldier at this time of year may be found, whenever there is time , scratching his head over the complexities of his income tax return. Private Jack Lewis is deep in the annual problem.” [Photo by US Army, Office of War Information, 1944.]

CBO can’t gauge discretionary spending in HR 3590 because ‘sufficient guidance’ lacking

Rep. Mike Pence addresses the House. On Wednesday, he appeared on MSNBC to explain why the healthcare bill will fail at real healthcare reform. At present Democrats and President Barack Obama are pushing healthcare legislation under the pretense it will save Americans money and make insurance affordable to some of the uninsured. Republicans have criticized the Senate version of healthcare, HR 3590, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, for its cost. Democrats have responded it will save money over time and that position has been echoed by sympathetic pundits and analysts across cyberspace and TV Land.

Fact is, no one really knows exactly what it will cost and a March 15 statement at the Congressional Budget Office explains why. Furthermore, most members of Congress do not know what is in the complicated bill because they haven’t seen it.
