NASA Affairs: Questions about tech leaks to China and ‘revenue’ from leases

Photo: NASAExplosive allegations about violations of the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) have arisen at NASA, but there’s more to the story than technology leaks. Within accounts published by media, information about space NASA leases commercially at Ames Research Center (Calif.) should also raise questions.

The primary concern involves allegations about the sharing of missile defense technology with countries like China, South Korea and Saudi Arabia.

Kerry takes charge: State Dept. gift shop, climate change and foreign dignitaries

The State Dept. selected Sec. John Kerry's visit to the agency's gift shop as photo of the week. (Photo: U.S. State Dept.)Sec. of State John Kerry visited the State Dept. gift shop and pitched issues like climate change and the much maligned sequester in his first speeches.

At the University of Virginia, Kerry focused on federal spending—he wants more, of course, because he’s a Democrat—gender equality, the complications of globalization and aid to other countries.

Kerry also backhanded Republicans, blaming Congress for the sequester President Barack Obama conceived and pledged to maintain.

Obama energy firewall: Atlantic, Pacific and parts of Arctic off-limits for US producers

This photograph from the Library of Congress Digital Collection is dated 1944; it was produced by the Office of War Information.. The caption said, “America's petroleum industries pour out fuel and lubricants for the United Nations.” At that point in America’s history, the enviro-lobby did not have absolute control over America’s natural resources. The Independent Petroleum Association of America is not happy with President Barack Obama’s Proposed 5-year Program for Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) Oil and Natural Gas leasing for 2012-2017.

IPAA sent a letter to the 5-year Program Manager at the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management.

Based on the letter, it’s evident the Obama Administration still has offshore drilling on de facto lockdown. IPAA said the administration “should not leave the entire Atlantic and Pacific Coasts and portions of the Arctic off-limits to new oil and gas production and job creation.”

Obama even said no to one US state eager to put people back to work.

That international debate has a distinctively hostile tone towards the U.S. and other “developed” nations. Thus far, Newt Gingrich is the only Republican candidate talking about it. The Democrat candidate never talks about it. (Article continues below video)
