CNN's Sanchez to DeMint: 'What the hell does that mean?'

Rick Sanchez, CNN pundit, doesn't understand the concept of freedom.Shortly after Sen. Arlen Specter “thrilled” President Barack Obama by jumping the fence to join the Democratic Party, CNN pundit Rick Sanchez interviewed South Carolina senator Jim DeMint. Sanchez led with predictable comments such as Republicans are making it hard for Republicans to get elected and the GOP is shrinking the electorate. DeMint pointed out the GOP has the “biggest tent of all—the tent of freedom.”

Sanchez erupted. “What the hell does that mean? The biggest tent is freedom?” Then he shrieked. “Freedom? You gotta’ do better than that!” I must mention CNN pundits often ask a subject a question but foam at the mouth before the subject can answer the question.

DeMint leads by example on fiscal conservatism; spoke out on appropriations bill

In the U.S. Senate, there are several Republicans who stay true to fiscal conservatism; one is Sen. Jim DeMint. The outspoken senator from South Carolina actually has the nerve to put the interests of the people above the party—a quality in short supply in Washington at present.

On March 4, DeMint filed 19 amendments to the $410-billion Omnibus Appropriations Bill, a bill that might be more appropriately called the “Omnibus Spendthrift Bill.” Several of those amendments were aimed at striking wasteful pork-barrel projects requested by members; others would prevent taxpayer dollars from being spent in support of controversial policies. Thousands of earmarks were in the final Omnibus bill and many of those earmarks are nothing more than pork inserted because political opportunity presented itself. From fruit flies to wine, members of Congress managed to load up the bill with pet projects that were not vetted by debate and oversight.

DeMint calls recovery bill a ‘three trillion dollar mistake’

Sen. Jim DeMint [Photo from US Senate website.](Washington, D. C.)—Despite the carnival atmosphere in Washington at the moment, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) managed to keep his wits intact and he called the Democratic “recovery” aka “stimulus” bill exactly what it is—a “three trillion dollar mistake.” Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio) pointed out a troubling fact during a floor speech opposing the bill—“1100 pages not one member of this body has read.” Boehner also reminded House members the bill was not posted online as promised for the public to read it. What does this bill really mean to the American people?

FreedomWorks mobilizes real push to get DeMint, Flake on key committees

One conservative organization is definitely alive and kicking, fresh off successful grassroots efforts on behalf of Sen. Saxby Chambliss.

FreedomWorks Georgia mobilized at the grassroots level to educate voters. (Photo courtesy FreedomWorks website).FreedomWorks, a conservative organization promoting lower taxes, less government and more freedom is mobilizing supporters to speak up about issues guaranteed to sizzle when the new administration takes office in January. At the top of the agenda is a mission to impact committee assignments. FW wants Rep. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) on the House Appropriations Committee and Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) on the Senate Finance Committee. In a conference call with FW supporters and bloggers on Friday, Chairman Dick Armey urged them to get the word out about two websites, makeitdemint.com and makeitflake.com. At those sites, supporters can sign petitions, get information and make donations. Armey knows tradeoffs between the new president and Congress are bound to happen just as they did with presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton when they took office. Once President Obama takes office, Armey said, “Congress will give him what they want.”
