GOP trips on Steele’s GQ interview; GQ levies insult at Steele and the South

The real dialog about Steele's GQ interview should address the use of the term 'reconstructionist.'Flying around the blogosphere with the fury of a speeding bullet are numerous criticisms and/or defenses of Republican National Committee chair Michael Steele. I will say candidly that he’d have to be a man of steel to willingly work in this political climate. Commenters on various blogs are like gossips leaning over their Chardonnay or granola—did you hear what he said about abortion? About being gay? The horror.

Obama can't justify limiting deductions for groups that get no return on federal dollars already

The document that lives in infamy. As though the business sector needed another reason to wring hands all ‘round, President Barack Obama’s tax assault on the “rich” is just another nail in the coffin for an already overtaxed upper middle class. Obama not only has the wrong idea on who is really "rich," he's clueless at the raw deal the real taxpayers are already getting.

White House assault on Limbaugh a smokescreen for ineptitude, broken pledges

Rush Limbaugh's talk show draws 20 million listeners. He stands to gain more if Dem assaults continue.[Photo from rushlimbaugh.com.](Washington, D.C.)—To say we’re living in strange times is an understatement. A March 4 story in Politico said Dem strategists, leftie advocacy groups and even former Israeli Army volunteer who’s now Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel have their britches in a wad as we say in the South over a popular conservative talk show host.

In a direct insult to Republican National Committee chair Michael Steele, various Democrats have dubbed Rush Limbaugh the head of the Republican Party. Steele is the RNC's first African-American chair. Does that Dem insult amount to racism?

Grand Old Party—anatomy of a down

Effective branding creates an image that lives far beyond conception. A perfect example of successful GOP branding is Theodore Roosevelt, our 26th president. (Photo from White House website.)Part 1 in an analysis of the 2008 General Election campaign

Since Barack Obama won the presidential election, and a number of new Democratic faces will soon head to the House and Senate, Republicans are doing some rather uncharacteristic navel gazing. From blogs to liberal newspapers, on message boards and via email discussions, GOP faithful are analyzing the down. A family member did more than that on election night. She was furious. Not at Obama. At the GOP.

Michael Moore looks to God via Gustav; GOP convention will help charities

Hurricane Gustav Aug. 31 at 4 p.m.; graphic courtesy of Natnl. Environmental Satellite, Data and Information Service.(St. Paul, Minn.)—It could’ve been the GOP’s worst nightmare—a major storm heading to an area that almost 3 years ago to the day was devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Forecasters are guaranteeing damage from Hurricane Gustav, predicted to hit land on the day the Republican National Convention is to begin. The conflict, both political and natural, has brought out religious philosophies from some Democratic strategists. Indie filmmaker Michael Moore told a niche TV network that Gustav coming during the GOP convention is “proof there is a God in heaven.” And former chair of the DNC Don Fowler said the storm is a “sign from God” against Republicans.

Gustav is definitely a mighty storm, forecast to come ashore on the northern Gulf Coast on Monday.
