On heels of Fast and Furious scandal, ATF blows it again with ‘Fearless Distributing’

The National Shooting Sports Foundation launched a campaign to address straw purchases of firearms. The trade group partnered with federal agencies to promote the campaign to the public. Maybe it should be promoted to federal agencies as well. (Graphic: Don’t Lie)How many federal officials are in law enforcement, or alternatively, how many can, like Environmental Protection Agency “agents”, carry firearms? Your guess is as good as mine. Apparently, however, the massive federal law enforcement bureaucracy is in need of serious reform.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has struck again. On the heels of gunwalking via the Fast and Furious scandal, ATF has set up sting operations in a number of U.S. cities. In Milwaukee (Wisc.), ATF blew the operation in more ways than one.

DOJ still blocking information on Fast and Furious; JW files brief

Customs and Border Patrol units on watch near the southern part of the Rio Grande in Texas. Illegal weapons pose a threat to officers. (Photo: James Tourtellotte, CBP/U.S. Government)U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and President Barack Obama have been reluctant to divulge details about Operation Fast and Furious. F&F was a botched gun-running operation government agencies conducted in hopes of curtailing the weapons flow to cartels in Mexico.

The latest obstruction will not surprise unbiased political observers. After all, the Obama administration is less transparent than that of Republican President George W. Bush.

What Democrats missed in the Holder contempt affair and Fast and Furious

Border Patrol Agent Brian A. Terry was murdered in December, 2010. His family is still waiting for answers from the U.S. Attorney General's office.[Photo: Officer Down Memorial]Republicans and some Democrats voted on Thursday to hold U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt over documents related to the Fast and Furious gunwalking operation.

This is a significant election year issue,  but not for the reasons the Left assumes.

Tea partiers vindicated by federal government’s excesses

President Barack Obama promised to fix the economy in every campaign speech he made in 2008. 'Hope and change' evaporated. (Screen snip The US Report)“It’s clear that there is no path to compromise that goes through the tea party. We urge Speaker Boehner to push ahead without them. We are ready to work with him if he is willing to buck the extreme element of his party.”—Sen. Chuck Schumer  to Associated Press, March, 2011

From the moment the grassroots tea party movement began to sweep the nation, tea partiers were maligned, defamed and attacked by most of media who advocate for the Left and by many politicians, mostly Democrats.

Those who formed local groups had some things in common. They wanted a smaller, more efficient government. They did not want tax increases. In general, they wanted a lesser role in their daily lives for the federal government. These aspirations were refueled on multiple occasions, including the government’s takeover of healthcare via a backdoor bill most Democrats admitted they didn’t even read.

Rarely have we witnessed such excesses and scandals in our government.

Embattled AG Holder plays the race card again

President Barack Obama’s Attorney General Eric Holder hasn’t taken responsibility for Fast and Furious, a gunwalking operation undertaken by the Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms and Explosives.

Holder did receive memos about the operation. Media have reported at least one US Border Patrol officer was killed and approximately 300 people in Mexico were killed with the weapons  bought by straw purchasers and then taken to drug cartels.

To not expect criticism of such an operation suggests detachment from reality.

Holder told The New York Times that racism is the reason for that criticism.
