Romney is right: Obama and the Dems are big time spenders

As soon as I learned that Rex Nutting at Market Watch claimed President Barack Obama’s spending binge never happened. I started backtracking through articles I’d written about spending. I followed links to various articles in other publications.

I put a few notes on paper. Then I saw a numbers guy was onto the story as well—Political Math Blog. If you don’t read any other blog, by the way, read that one. [Links below.]

Bottom line: Obama and the Dems are big spenders.

Read between the lines on $58 billion April surplus the CBO announced

This Congressional Budget Office chart shows the U.S. deficit remains at outrageous levels for the long term. (CBO graph/US Government. Arrow added by TUSR)Headlines touted a budget surplus of $58 billion in April for the U.S. government, good news for President Barack Obama as he goes from low to high gear on his 2012 campaign for reelection.

However, there’s bad news for the U.S. taxpayer because the Congressional Budget Office estimates the Treasury will record a deficit of $721 billion for the first seven months of 2012.

How do Clinton’s ‘balanced budget’ loopholes impact us today?

Updated on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at 7:29PM by Registered CommenterKay B. Day, Editor

**Please see the followup to this article posted at the end. The federal budget was technically balanced; we explain below.**~~Editor

Right off the bat I will admit I’ve always been distrusting when former president Bill Clinton (D) and former speaker of the US House Newt Gingrich (R) praise their respective parties for balancing the federal budget. I have those problems because despite promises from current president Barack Obama, our government has yet to become a model of transparency when it comes to fiscal and other issues.

Ryan says Obama budget plan triples US debt over 10-year term

Ryan's 'Path to Prosperity' is posted online. Unlike many of the bills and plans crafted by Democrats, Ryan's plan is written in simple English and is easily comprehended.Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) is known for his knowledge about the federal budget and spending, one reason he heads up the Budget Committee in the US House of Representatives. Ryan appeared on Fox and Friends on Wednesday, and he made the case for his fiscal plan ‘The Path to Prosperity’ with a declaration that should upset every American. “Obama,” said Ryan, “is accelerating us towards a debt crisis.”

Why? Because of “budget gimmicks and accounting tricks.”

Ryan delivered hard numbers that would send any business owner into a tailspin. Under President Barack Obama and his fellow Democrats in Congress, federal agency spending rose 24 percent across the board. Once Stimulus dollars were unleashed, the increase rose to 84 percent.

In a down year any business, large or small, raising budgets across the board by 84 percent would not be long for this world.

GOP non-candidates are best bet for 2012, starting with Rubio

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.). (Photo from US Senate page; screen snip)It pains me to say this but I really don’t see a fire in the belly candidate from the GOP for the 2012 presidential race. The most visible candidates receiving press at the moment didn’t win primaries in 2008—as a matter of fact, most Republicans were astonished to learn Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) would be the GOP contender against then Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.)

I’ve come to the conclusion our best bet for the White House may be an as yet unannounced candidate. I did have hopes for Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.), but he decided to stay in the US House.

Former China ambassador Jon Huntsman is rumored to be entertaining ideas about running. The Christian Science Monitor reported even Obama, who appointed Huntsman to the ambassadorship, made jokes about that.

But if I had to place my money on a candidate whose actions indicate he gets the big picture, my money would go on Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.)

Politics and media aside, GOP can cut $100 billion in spending

It took media about half a day to start pounding Republicans after the party regained a measure of power in the 2010 midterm elections. Some media—even some conservatives—are in a tizzy over whether Republicans will cut $50 billion or $100 billion from the so-called federal budget.

On blaming Bush, do Dems forget or just lie?

Updated on Monday, July 19, 2010 at 7:19PM by Registered CommenterKay B. Day, Editor

If you listen to a speech by President Barack Obama, at some point he will remind you he “inherited” this economy and he will imply that America’s skyrocketing debt is all the fault of President George W. Bush.  Are Democrats lying or merely confused?
