Obama woe: Perry picks up key endorsement

If Gov. Rick Perry wins the GOP nomination, optics will definitely be an influencer in the 2012 General Election.Add the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives to Gov. Rick Perry’s endorsements for president.

The Perry campaign released a statement announcing Rep. Dean Cannon's (R) endorsement on Wednesday:

“President Obama’s big-government, Washington experiment has cost our nation more than 2.3 million jobs,” said Speaker Cannon. “Meanwhile, since just June 2009, Rick Perry’s Texas is responsible for approximately 40 percent of the net new jobs in America.”

Jobs will surely be on voters’ minds as the General Election draws near. The economy, linchpin in President Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign, will not be a key talking point because Democrats have mismanaged and spent on such a large scale.

Cannon’s statement also included this:

“Governor Perry knows that we must reduce government spending. You cannot tax your way into prosperity, and you cannot borrow your way out of debt. Governor Perry's record of creating jobs and cutting spending is exactly what we need to get our country back on track, and I am excited to support his campaign to get America working again."

Florida will be a key state in the 2012 General Election. Personally, I think Obama would prefer to face any candidate but the Texas governor. Woe to the president on that note.

Think about it for a minute—candidate appeal isn't not just about substance, a quality Democrats run short on at present. Optics will matter a great deal in 2012. Obama on a stage with Perry is a far cry from Obama on a stage with Sen. John McCain.

Migration: DREAM-style and law enforcment acts in Florida legislature

The US Citizenship and Immigration Services page provides user-friendly information to migrants. Obama’s policy has changed the terminology. An announcement on the page said, “The USCIS Office of Public Engagement invites customers and stakeholders to participate in our next ‘Enlace,’ which takes place Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 1:00PM (EDT). This public engagement is a free Spanish-language event where USCIS will share agency updates, give a presentation focused on the topic of "How to Navigate U.S. Citizenship," and provide an open forum segment to respond to questions from the public.” Apparently USCIS is only interested in those who speak Spanish, a de facto policy of discrimination.Critics and proponents of  migrant policy in Florida are speaking out on blogs and message boards, with two bills top of the blogosphere. Florida Senate bill SB 2040 and Florida Senate Bill 318—a de facto Sunshine State ‘DREAM Act’ modeled on the federal bill that failed in the US Congress last year—are the two bills most people are discussing.

Florida congresswoman Sandy Adams will oppose Democrat Suzanne Kosmas in November for US House seat Dist. 24 in Florida. When the US Congress passed the MOVE Act in 2009, states were expected to comply with the uncomplicated legislation that seeks to make sure the military vote is counted. While some states have delayed their compliance, Florida has been praised for being ahead of the game.
