In Florida as midterm nears, the oranges hang low right down there with the politicos

Calamondins grow well in Florida, in a container or in the ground. They ripen late in the season in our area, and they have a lemony taste. We like to put small slices in our tea.In the nation’s fourth largest state, we are beginning to see some types of oranges ripen. Those on my Satsuma are heavy with pulp and juice—I had to prop one limb on the bottom up to make sure the fruit didn’t rest on the ground. Hanging even lower than those small tasty fruits are a few select politicos.

Florida’s new politics digest lays claim to ‘Headline Headquarters’

Because Florida is such a quirky state, aside from the fact it’s the nation’s 4th largest, Sunshine State news often makes it onto the national radar. Updated on Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at 8:14PM by Registered CommenterKay B. Day, Editor

Javier Manjarres, founder of the Conservative Republican Alliance and a columnist for Red County, quizzed Stone about the Rubio-Crist battle and other political issues during a recent interview. Manjarres focused on one issue dear to grassroots conservative hearts—Marco Rubio’s battle for the nomination to oppose a Democrat in the race for retiring senator Mel Martinez’s seat. Stone also responded to questions about the current state of Republican politics in The Sunshine State and the clear ideological divide between grassroots and leadership.

Stone is an informational gem when it comes to political interviews—I’ve often said he is a walking encyclopedia on politics, both Democrat and Republican. He’s the guy statists love to hate and strategists and media love to call on. His predictions are usually spot on—most recently he predicted Martinez would retire weeks before anyone else thought about it.

Dignitaries cut the ribbon anchored by a black elephant.(Jacksonville, Fla.)—Thursday evening the opening of the new Minority Headquarters for Duval County Republicans drew an overflow crowd so packed we were shoulder to shoulder. People came in all colors and nationalities to celebrate meeting a goal that began more than a year ago. The headquarters will be operated by the Joseph E. Lee Club. Darcell Streeter, project co-chair, emceed the program.

Streeter welcomed dignitaries like Jacksonville Sheriff John Rutherford, Florida State Rep. Jennifer Carroll (Dist.13), Alci Maldonado, Chair of the Republican National Hispanic Assembly and others.
