Obama’s weakest link: Congress

President Barack Obama hit the campaign trail, talking to his Union peeps over Labor Day. Obama pitched his usual commentary. He and his fellow Dems saved the jobs of teachers and firefighters. No one knows how the states will deal with the same budget shortfalls next year, but who cares?

Democrats’ tax increase shows lack of concern for Main Street, small business

Rep. Mike Pence delivered the weekly Republican address July 24. Pence said, "Washington D.C. doesn't tax too little. Washington D.C. spends too much. I don't know anybody back in Indiana who thinks they pay too little in taxes. Only in Washington D.C. would anyone believe raising taxes creates jobs."Some financial analysts seem to think the problem with the US economic recovery boils down to a lack of confidence. US Senate candidate Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) alludes to uncertainty—he said the rhetoric coming out of Washington has a “negative overall impact” that creates a discouraging environment. Democrat enthusiasm for a tax increase does little to stem the negativity.

No one seems to know exactly what the Congress and President Barack Obama’s administration are going to do next. No one knows what their actions will cost. And thus far, every action by Democrats controlling the government points to a serious lack of concern for Main Street and small business.

Add to the mix the fact we can’t trust national branded media whose employees conspired to impact the 2008 presidential election, and you have a perfect storm of distrust.

Lame Duck option for Democrats as Devolution beckons to GOP

Devolution: Delegation of power—the transfer of power from a central
to a subordinate level or organization, particularly from a central
government to regional or local governments. [Encarta]

Son of President Roosevelt before Tax Evasion Committee. Washington D.C., July 13. James Roosevelt, son and Secretary of President Roosevelt, who appeared before the Joint Congressional Tax Evasion Committee today to deny "emphatically" assertions by Rep. Hamilton Fish, R. of New York that he has used tax law loopholes, Roosevelt is shown surrounded by newpapermen just before taking the witness stand.Members of Obama's cabinet and Democrat members of Congrss have had problems with their taxes. [Harris and Ewing collection, US Library of Congress] The Obama-Pelosi-Reid potential for cramming through pet progressive goals is cropping up in political chatter right now. John Fund at The Wall Street Journal pointed out risks for Democrats in November. Polls suggest that voters have wised up to the disastrous policies and ineptitude in national leaders.

Fund said, “There have been signs in recent weeks that party leaders are planning an ambitious, lame-duck session to muscle through bills in December they don't want to defend before November. Retiring or defeated members of Congress would then be able to vote for sweeping legislation without any fear of voter retaliation.”

Senate takes up HR 1388 as S.277 Serve America Act; CBO says billions in spending

Updated on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at 4:16PM by Registered CommenterKay B. Day, Editor

The bill known as HR 1388 illustrates every problem Americans have with our government. For one thing, no one seems to be able to settle on a title. This bill has been alternately known as the GIVE Act (Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education), the Congressional Commission on Civic Service Act, the National Services Reauthorization Act among others. The Senate’s title at present is the Serve America Act, S.277, as best I can tell. This bill’s purpose is defined as an intent to “reauthorize and reform the national service laws.” The "reform" bill is a largely Democratic Party product. Researching it has been like a comedy of errors and uncertainty wherein "nobody knows nuttin'."

Screen shot of the US Public Service Academy fundraising and lobby site. An excellent tool for growing a class of political elitists. The new group Stop HR 1388 has formed at Facebook for the purpose of derailing HR 1388 as it heads to the US Senate after marching its large body through the House of Representatives. The bill is a massive social program that many libertarians and conservatives believe will not only once again contradict the U.S. Constitution, but also create yet another expensive, ineffective program at a time when taxpayers are levying heavy criticism at administrations past and present. The bill makes bloated social programs of the past look stick thin. Hundreds of people have signed up; the group was formed one day ago.

Officially titled the “Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act” (GIVE), the bill amends and broadens the National and Community Service Act of 1990 and the Domestic Volunteer Service Act of 1973. Had the government a grip on reality, members would realize volunteerism is alive and well in the US, and it doesn't come near the cost this program expansion requires.
