Old media vs. new in Drudge-bashing by NBC’s Chuck Todd

Criticizing established media brands like The New York Times and The Washington Post, as well as long-time TV networks, is in full swing these days. So turnabout is fair play.  Chuck Todd, head White House correspondent for NBC News, had a few things to say about new media, with particular emphasis on Matt Drudge’s go-to website where many of us pop in throughout the day to see what’s interesting in the world around us.

Matt Drudge has carved a place for himself in media history whether old branded media likes it or not.In an interview with Tommy Christopher at Mediaite, Todd bemoaned ‘Drudge-driven’ journalism. He criticized stories based on “an opinion article allegation, not even a factually based story, that suddenly draws a question because Drudge linked to it.”

Drudge will certainly do the trick when a story runs around frantically looking for legs. For Todd, that is not a good thing. He said, “There’s no worse crime in journalism these days than simply deciding something’s a story because Drudge linked to it.”

Brit newspaper discloses IPCC climate chief ties to lobby group

Commentary by Kay B. Day

The US Report was one of the first media outlets in the world to question Dr. R.K. Pachauri’s chummy relationship with Big Oil as neolibs like to call the industry. In a December 1 column we criticized U.S. newspapers for going no further than a descriptive for Dr. R.K. Pachauri who heads up the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate change.

We wrote, “If newspapers retained any mettle whatsoever, by now at least one would have disclosed the chair of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is chummy with the dastardly entity alleged liberals call Big Oil. Dr. R.K. Pachauri’s bio says: ‘In January 1999, Dr. R. K. Pachauri was appointed as Director, Board of Directors of the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (a Fortune 500 company) for a period of 3 years.’

U.S. newspapers have failed miserably in covering climate change/aka global warming/aka The Little Ice Age. But a British paper finally took a hard look at Pachauri and the information suggests I’ve been right all along about pure profit driving the climate change industry, common sense conservation values be damned.

Commentary by Kay B. Day

My gerbera daisies love carbon dioxide. The British Broadcasting Corp. made a confession of sorts with an article titled, ‘What happened to global warming?’ Saying the warmest year “globally” was 1998, The BBC admitted, “For the last 11 years we have not observed any increase in global temperatures.”

Congress set to keep Obama's promise electricity will skyrocket

Updated on Friday, June 26, 2009 at 11:36AM by Registered CommenterKay B. Day, Editor

The Cap and Trade bill, HR 2454, also known as Waxman-Markey, should go down in history if the bill is passed,  as the greatest looting of the US consumer in history. I still wonder how Americans could elect a president who tells them in advance, "Under my plan...electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket."

Whatever your preference in politics, Cap and Trade is no one's friend. It is not an environmentally sound plan. It manipulates prices inherently, with areas using coal paying far more in energy costs. Businesses will of course simply pass the cost onto consumers, and even President Barack Obama can't stop that unless he goes totally totalitarian and acquires the entire US economy. The Dems of course are close to doing that  now. [Continues below video.]
