Politics of Justice: No hate crime label for alleged shooter at Christian headquarters

Right now it’s no secret the U.S Dept. of Justice swings hard Left.

The recent shooting at a Christian group’s headquarters is a perfect example of why our country should never have passed what we loosely call hate crime legislation.

Does ruling by USDA assistant secretary encourage looting rare plants in US forests?

Wilderness area in Olympic National Forest (Washington). (Photo US Forest Service)What do you do when you’re an officer with the U.S. Forest Service and you come up on a couple who appear to be “illegally harvesting plants in the Olympic National Forest?” You approach and question them. What do you do when you realize the couple doesn’t speak English?

Government cronies win, taxpayers lose in energy loan deals

ThomasNet News, part of an industrial search engine site, has the scoop on energy loan deals with Democrat donors and well-known political activists like Robert Kennedy, Jr. A recent article by David Sims disclosed:

As investigative journalist Peter Schweizer reports in his new book, Throw Them All Out, 80 percent of all $20.5 billion in Department of Energy loans went to President Obama’s top donors, including such megarich one percenter Democrats as Google owners Larry Page and Sergey Brinn, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Ted Turner, John Doerr, and Al Gore.

Solar panels [US Dept. of Energy]The US Report has raised questions about taxpayer losses because of Solydra and questions about loan guarantees to other companies.

Most Americans pay little attention to the science by consensus that has come to define the global warming/climate change/formerly Little Ice Age movement. The irony is that even as we ignore the battle over US energy resources, our utility bills continue to rise.

The president’s policies are ramping up utility costs for every home in the country.

U.S. Counterterrorism Advisory Team celebrates second birthday

By W. Thomas Smith Jr.

The U.S. Counterterrorism Advisory Team (USCTAT) recognizes the two-year anniversary of its founding (Dec. 19, 2009) this week. The anniversary follows an awards ceremony at the S.C. State House, last week, in which six team members were honored for their service and commitment to national security.

The USCTAT is a 20-plus member council composed of nationally recognized military, counterterrorism, and intelligence experts. The team is an initiative of the Family Security Foundation, Inc., a national security non-profit. The team also serves in ongoing affiliations with both the American Public Policy Alliance and the Washington, D.C.-based Center for Security Policy among other national security initiatives.

The USCTAT’s expert advisors and analysts include retired CIA officers, two former U.S. Deputy Undersecretaries of Defense, the former commander of U.S. Army Special Forces, and the founder and first commanding officer of SEAL Team Six (known today as DEVGRU).

Since 2009, the USCTAT has provided analysis to military units and many of the world’s leading news agencies. Additionally, the USCTAT’s Task Force India has tested and reviewed tactical equipment with reviews appearing in general consumer and law enforcement publications.

Crist hack Kennedy assails Rubio supporters in political class war

The St. Petersburg Times let its leftwing spirit dominate a story* on Thursday. The header related to Senate frontrunner Marco Rubio (R), suggesting misuse of campaign funds which turned out to be non-misuse of campaign funds. The paper threw in a little ancient history for good measure, returning to charges about expenses under the former chair of the Republican Party of Florida. The article alluded to a blogger for The Miami-Herald who dug into the current campaign funds story and came up with nothing.

Warlord, Inc. report and the injustice dealt Bill Shaw

Guest commentary by Gary H. Johnson, Jr.

Update, Jul. 4, 2010: Bill Shaw has been cleared by an Afghan court. The US Report sends best wishes to Mr. Shaw and his family.

(July 2, 2010)--The troubling case of Bill Shaw has not reached mainline news in America for a reason.  I had previously read the BBC story in my studies of Private Security Contractors in Afghanistan, and I was disgusted by it.  But, here is the thing. Bill Shaw may be a victim of timing more than anything.

The House Subcommittee on National Security and Foreign Affairs has released a report on allegations of corruption in the US supply chain in Afghanistan. The US Government has recently been involved with what is known as the Afghan Host Nation Trucking contract worth $2.16 billion slated to be paid out to eight private security contractor firms.

US Memorial Day—paying homage to those who gave all

By Kay B. Day

Throughout history cultures have honored sons and daughters who sacrificed their lives for country or state, and across the US on Monday, music will play and remarks will be made in observance of US Memorial Day. Colors will be presented and Taps will sound plaintive notes to  honor those who died.

In Jacksonville there’s always a ceremony at Veterans Memorial Wall downtown—we are very much a city under the influence of military because of the Naval base comprising the Air Station and Mayport.

Many in my family and a number of close friends served or are serving in the military. A couple years ago I happened to be talking to a military man who is also a close friend.

Lt. Col. W. Thomas Smith, Jr., has always been very supportive of my poetry.  I don’t remember our exact conversation, but the upshot was that after I asked him if he had a poem of his own, he said he didn't. So I told him I’d write him one and I did. The poem bounced around a number of publications and I’m reprinting it here (I don’t think he’ll mind) as a small gesture to honor those who serve.  I had the pleasure of reading this as one of my selections for Florida Poets Arrive at the US Library of Congress.
