Rubio’s personal history resonates with weekly GOP address and ‘Dream’ ad

US Senate candidate Marco Rubio (R) got right to the heart of a political matter on the minds of many when he delivered the weekly GOP address on Saturday. The former speaker of the Florida House said, “Today the American Dream is threatened by out of control politicians in Washington, who think that more government deficit spending is what it takes to grow our economy. That has never worked anywhere it’s been tried and it won’t work now.”

For Rubio, the American Dream is a personal issue. And for many of us whose personal history includes memories of growing up in small towns and rural areas, his personal history resonates.

Joint presser with Rubio, LeMieux: Florida has ‘suffered greatly’; 50 out of 50 on Stimulus

US Senate candidate Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) held a joint press conference by phone with Sen. George LeMieux (R-Fla.) on Tuesday, saying Florida has “suffered greatly because of job losses” during the country’s economic downturn. LeMieux implied that big government is part of the problem, “creating thousands of pages of new federal programs that are job killers.”

LeMieux also said government is creating “such uncertainty businesses can’t hire people.” Business owners don’t know what the next mandate or regulation or new tax will be. “Eighteen months ago,” he said, “this administration said 3 ½ million new jobs would be created by August, 2010.” That didn’t happen. “Florida was 50 out of 50 in Stimulus dollars received.”

‘First Read’ apparently confused about GOP wins, downplays Rubio

Because I still have a brain intact, I don’t really take blogs like First Read too seriously. After all, the blog is hosted at MSNBC and we all know how that network swings. But there’s a statement so silly in the Wednesday post, 'First Thoughts: Tea Party Wins Again', I felt compelled to adjust the record. The statement relates to former speaker of the Florida House Marco Rubio who is running for the US Senate.

Rubio is the presumed GOP nominee who in November will challenge IINO (Independent in Name Only) Gov.  Charlie Crist and the winner of the Democrat Primary. The MSNBC blog reported winners of various primaries and then the blogger said, “And then you have Marco Rubio in Florida, who won his primary by default.”

By default?

'Reduce and Cap the Federal Workforce Act' one remedy for bloated government

Finally Washington is waking up to the enormous growth in the federal workforce. Sen. Orrin Hatch (GOP-Utah) has introduced a vital amendment, The Reduce and Cap the Federal Workforce Act.  This amendment is key to reining in runaway costs associated with perks, benefits and pensions paid for largely by the American taxpayer. Current levels of federal spending cannot be maintained.

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) introduced the amendment on August 5. In a statement he said the legislation would require the following:

Democrats’ tax increase shows lack of concern for Main Street, small business

Rep. Mike Pence delivered the weekly Republican address July 24. Pence said, "Washington D.C. doesn't tax too little. Washington D.C. spends too much. I don't know anybody back in Indiana who thinks they pay too little in taxes. Only in Washington D.C. would anyone believe raising taxes creates jobs."Some financial analysts seem to think the problem with the US economic recovery boils down to a lack of confidence. US Senate candidate Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) alludes to uncertainty—he said the rhetoric coming out of Washington has a “negative overall impact” that creates a discouraging environment. Democrat enthusiasm for a tax increase does little to stem the negativity.

No one seems to know exactly what the Congress and President Barack Obama’s administration are going to do next. No one knows what their actions will cost. And thus far, every action by Democrats controlling the government points to a serious lack of concern for Main Street and small business.

Add to the mix the fact we can’t trust national branded media whose employees conspired to impact the 2008 presidential election, and you have a perfect storm of distrust.

Rubio gains major endorsement, holds steady in Rasmussen poll

During a conference call with bloggers on Friday, presumed GOP nominee in Florida for the US Senate race Marco Rubio announced a major endorsement that will be made on Friday. Bill Miller, senior vice president of the US Chamber of Commerce, said Rubio had “earned” the organization’s endorsement because of his “strong component of free enterprise ratings.” Miller said Rubio had “voted the votes important to people in the state of Florida.”

Rubio holds his own with Wolf Blitzer’s questions on drilling, Crist and a curious poll

Marco Rubio held his own during a Q&A with Wolf Blitzer on CNN’s ‘Situation Room’ on Tuesday, deftly fielding questions about offshore drilling, Gov. Charlie Crist (I, Fla.) and the results of a poll deserving a closer look in my opinion.

Blitzer asked about Crist’s demands for a special session of the Florida Legislature. Crist wants a constitutional amendment to permanently ban drilling in Florida waters on the November ballot.
