Rubio endorsed by Crist’s senate pick; raises $4.5 million in Q2

The Shark Tank announced that Sen. George LeMieux (R-Fla.) has endorsed Marco Rubio in the US Senate race.Marco Rubio, presumed GOP nominee for the US Senate, is most definitely on a roll. In a week he’s taken top spot on the overall ticket according to the latest Rasmussen poll, and he raised $4.5 million in the second quarter.

As if those weren’t enough to celebrate, The Shark Tank reported that Sen. George LeMieux has officially endorsed Rubio—LeMieux was Gov. Charlie Crist’s appointee for the Senate seat Mel Martinez vacated. During a blogger conference call today, Rubio mentioned one thing in particular that he said made him “happy.”

Gov. Charlie Crist saga stranger by the day

Gov. Charlie Crist may be charming leftwingers and like-minded Democrats in his bid for a US Senate seat, technically as an independent, but he’s having a run of bad luck on a few other fronts. Twists and turns of late lend a strange air to the governor’s campaign.

Start with a donor lawsuit.

Crist in limelight on oil spill, backs Obama ban on drilling

Day

Many who voted to elect Charlie Crist (I) as governor might recognize him these days only because of his trademark tan.

Seizing the opportunity behind the oil crisis, Crist has been up front and center in media, responding to Democrat President Barack Obama’s handling of the oil rig crisis. It didn’t take long for the governor who is running for a US Senate seat to get down to brass tacks on alternative energy.

Crist told Face the Nation [CBS] on Sunday the oil spill is “the greatest wakeup call ever.”

And evoking memories of his support of the Stimulus Bill, Crist said he supports the six month ban on offshore drilling Obama has put in place.

Rubio frames good question for BP, expands respect in blogosphere

By Kay B. Day

Presumed GOP nominee for the Florida Senate Marco Rubio keynoted CPAC 2010.This morning former speaker of the Florida House Marco Rubio was on Fox and Friends doing an interview about the BP oil spill. As that interview aired, content was popping up on some of the most influential blogs on the Web. On TV and in the blogosphere, he looked and talked like a US senator.

He brought up a point no one else is talking about in depth—what went wrong on the rig at Deepwater Horizon? What caused the explosion?

Down in old Kentuck’ Paul and Grayson spar over Senate Seat

Dr. Rand Paul talked to Neil Cavuto on Fox News May 10.By Kay B. Day

One thing the GOP isn’t short on is candidates and a primary battle for a US senate seat ranks right up there as a great sparring match. In Kentucky Dr. Rand Paul has given establishment fav  Secretary of State Trey Grayson a series of punches resulting in top spot on the polls for Paul. Paul has done that by largely focusing on a positive campaign of specific ideas.

As voters hopefully head to the polls, media reported some Paul supporters were removed from a precinct (or two) but no specifics were given. Most jaded analysts like me figure it’s a last minute negative tactic that won’t matter a bit to Paul’s supporters—much ado about not much at all.

Grayson has blamed Fox News for favoring Paul.

Up and coming GOP leaders question relationship between people, Nanny State

Why real change will only come by reducing the number of Democrats in the US government.

By Kay B. Day

The Associated Press covered an event with former speaker of the Florida House Marco Rubio, a Republican who is campaigning for a seat in the US Senate. The header said, ‘Rubio says country relying too much on government.’

Lenny Curry, chairman of the Republican Party of Duval County, wants candidates to define their views about the relationship between government and the people. Curry is shown at the opening of the Duval GOP Minority Headquarters. [Photo by Kay B. Day]A few days prior to Rubio’s remarks, Duval County (Fla.) GOP chairman Lenny Curry posted a quick note on his Facebook page in conversational shorthand. Curry said before a candidate talked about specific issues, “I would like to know candidate view of relationship between people and their government. 1st things 1st.”

The conversation both Rubio and Curry want to have is beginning to take hold across the nation. Just how big do we want our Nanny to get?

For instance, Sen. Jim DeMint’s Senate Conservatives Fund is focused on electing true conservatives. DeMint is a Republican and the Fund has endorsed Rubio and a number of others.

When the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste PAC announced support for former representative Pat Toomey  in the US Senate race in Pennsylvania, CCAGW’s statement from chairman Tom Schatz read, “Pat Toomey is a proven leader in supporting limited government and eliminating excessive spending.”

The size of government and government’s reach into private wallets is probably the overriding issue of our time. What we do today will determine our country’s future character.

Obviously Democrats are incapable of reducing spending the hard way—by approaching the federal budget as a whole, and including foreign aid as a potential target for reductions.

It appears the current administration will be satisfied with focusing on tightening federal entitlement programs like Medicare. Eliminating Medicare Advantage subsidies is one example.

Dean Black unfurls 'FAN' club, aims to unseat Brown in US House

By Kay B. Day

Dean Black planted corn with his children on the family farm.Republican candidates are abundant these days, a fact that should not surprise because voters are getting a serious wakeup call from Washington. One race heating up Florida bears strong resemblance to what has become a mythic race for the US Senate seat being sought by GOP favorite Marco Rubio. GOP candidate Dean Black is unfurling the Fix America Now plan—FAN for short—as part of his campaign for the US House of Representatives.
