Idaho latest to push states' rights in 10th amendment

Republican Liberty Caucus (Florida) chair Will Pitts, addressing the 2009 National RLC Convention in Jacksonville, keeps members informed about politics and legislation.[Photo by Kay B. Day]Idaho is the latest state to remind the federal government that power is “inherent in the people.” Republican Liberty Caucus chair for Florida Will Pitts informed members late Wednesday Idaho passed the 10th Amendment Resolution Memorial. Pitts said the resolution “will now be forwarded to the US Congress and the President as a notice and demand to cease and desist all unconstitutional activity.”

According to The Tenth Amendment Center, more than 30 states have either passed such a resolution or are in the process of doing so. The movement actually gained momentum during President George W. Bush’s term as conservatives and libertarians grappled with implications of The Patriot Act and other issues.

Obama’s decision on UN Human Rights Council his worst yet

Pop and mass media have reported President Barack Obama’s desire for a seat on the UN Human Rights Council, and even wire services are running interference for what many Americans perceive as Obama’s worst decision to date. The Associated Press said (Apr. 1): “The Obama administration's announcement Tuesday that it would seek a seat reverses former President George W. Bush's policy of disengagement with the Geneva body over its criticism of Israel.” The AP did what many aforesaid media do—they used Israel and George Bush as a smokescreen. Every American who values freedom should send a letter to Washington or at the least, get on the phone. A mass protest—peaceful, of course—would be appropriate. Because the UN Human Rights Council is an absolute insult to human rights, and as an example, I offer you tidbits from Resolution 7/19 adopted March 27, 2009, starting with some troubling numbers.

I met refugees from Somalia when I covered a story for a daily newspaper. The US State Dept. said unpredictable armed conflicts among rival militias are prevalent in southern Somalia, particularly in and around Mogadishu. This has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of Somali nationals and the displacement of nearly one million people. The refugees were attending World Refugee Day in Jacksonville; a social services agency worker is shown in the photo as well.

Say no to Medicare Part A, you lose your social security benefits

Photo by James Gathany, Centers for Disease Control. It came as a surprise to me, but if a senior refuses to sign up for part A of the Medicare program, social security goes down the drain. A Tennessee congresswoman is trying to change that.

Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) sponsored H.R. 1118, the "Health Care Choices for Seniors Act," a bill to allow seniors a choice they currently don’t have. I had no idea how insurance for seniors works until I read The FreedomWorks blog by Joseph Onerati. Medicare Part A is mandated by the federal government.

Economist’s views on ‘Great Depression’ at RLC raise questions about Obama’s plans

Lawrence Reed, president of the Foundation for Economic Education, delivered a riveting address about the Great Depression during the banquet at the Republican Liberty Caucus national convention.Economist Lawrence W. Reed delivered the keynote address at the Republican Liberty Caucus national convention Saturday during the banquet, and he committed some serious myth-busting about the ‘Great Depression.’ Reed fractured one myth in his opening statements. Most Americans believe corporate America caused the Depression.

"The Federal Reserve system was at the core then—and today,” he said. Reed built a solid argument for the Depression’s causes, and analyzed the economic meltdown that began during President Herbert Hoover’s first term and proceeded to antagonize the global economy for more than two decades. By the end of Reed’s address one conclusion is inescapable: the current administration is following a path very similar to steps taken by administrations in charge during our troubled past.

The Obama factor: tax hikes as economy tries to correct, record federal spending

President Barack Obama has repeatedly promised tax increases, and he'll keep his word for sure. [Photo of inauguration 2009 by Kay B. Day]Predictions and projections for US citizens

I had a rather darkly humorous moment the other day as I watched a young man purchase a pack of cigarettes. When the clerk told him how much he owed, he said, “What!” As he left, I told him, “Hits me too—I smoke. And for that tax you can thank Obama and the Democrats.”

He looked at me quizzically and said, “Really?”

“Yup,” I said.

If I hadn’t been in a hurry, I’d have said, “Buddy, this is just the tip of the iceberg.”

Bernanke's trillion dollar gamble on the US economy

by Roger King

Roger King, contributor to The US Report. Click the photo to visit King's website.Although the recession has left many hurting and out of work, the feds are implementing an unproven theory called "quantitative easing." This approach has the potential of not only causing a depression but hyper-inflation as well. What has occurred to cause the Feds to implement this action? Walt Zimmerman vice-president of United ICAP explains that our economy is experiencing a combination of collapsing equity markets, real estate markets and commodity markets. This combination of events is so rare that it has not occurred since the Great Depression. Zimmerman explained the circumstances of a hyper-inflationary depression on Glenn Beck (Mar. 19). Follow the link in 'References' below to see the video at YouTube.

The New York Times (Mar. 23, ’09) said, "Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke, initially criticized for being too academic and slow to respond to market worries, has presided over some of the most interventionist and controversial Fed actions since the central bank’s founding in 1913." So why would the very liberal NYT see Bernanke's actions as interventionist and controversial?

Screen shot of the US Public Service Academy fundraising and lobby site. An excellent tool for growing a class of political elitists. The new group Stop HR 1388 has formed at Facebook for the purpose of derailing HR 1388 as it heads to the US Senate after marching its large body through the House of Representatives. The bill is a massive social program that many libertarians and conservatives believe will not only once again contradict the U.S. Constitution, but also create yet another expensive, ineffective program at a time when taxpayers are levying heavy criticism at administrations past and present. The bill makes bloated social programs of the past look stick thin. Hundreds of people have signed up; the group was formed one day ago.

Officially titled the “Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act” (GIVE), the bill amends and broadens the National and Community Service Act of 1990 and the Domestic Volunteer Service Act of 1973. Had the government a grip on reality, members would realize volunteerism is alive and well in the US, and it doesn't come near the cost this program expansion requires.
