(Washington, DC) - The Libertarian Party (LP) is protesting the decision by Facebook to refuse advertisements that advocate for the legalization of marijuana.

GOP reclaims roots with new minority office in Jacksonville

Updated on Friday, February 27, 2009 at 9:39PM by Registered CommenterKay B. Day, Editor

Dignitaries cut the ribbon anchored by a black elephant.(Jacksonville, Fla.)—Thursday evening the opening of the new Minority Headquarters for Duval County Republicans drew an overflow crowd so packed we were shoulder to shoulder. People came in all colors and nationalities to celebrate meeting a goal that began more than a year ago. The headquarters will be operated by the Joseph E. Lee Club. Darcell Streeter, project co-chair, emceed the program.

Streeter welcomed dignitaries like Jacksonville Sheriff John Rutherford, Florida State Rep. Jennifer Carroll (Dist.13), Alci Maldonado, Chair of the Republican National Hispanic Assembly and others. Streeter said, “This is not just the opening.” She said the headquarters represents a partnership for development, outreach and leadership—“to advance the principles and beliefs of this great Republican Party.”

Steele challenge: GOP infighting continues with insults to RLC

The Republican Liberty Caucus is holding its national convention in Jacksonville March 27-29. I plan to cover the conference. For more information, visit the RLC website by clicking on the photo. [Photo of Jax by Kay B. Day.]Michael Steele, recently elected chair of the Republican National Committee, has his work cut out for him in the wake of losses in recent election years. Steele must deal with a hostile, Democratic-favoring establishment media and he must also deal with a few hostiles at the grassroots level. As a political observer, I’ve noticed complaints about Republicans and the complaints aren’t coming from liberals or Democrats. They’re coming from other Republicans.

Case in point: The Republican Liberty Caucus. I received an email this week with a snippet of commentary from a personal blog set up at Townhall. The commentary basically dissed the RLC, suggesting the group has no place at the GOP table. The writer alluded to members of the RLC as trash—“Let’s take out the trash,” he wrote.

RNC chair up for grabs as candidates debate party strategy

(COMMENTARY)—Even before the 2008 presidential election, conservatives bemoaned the state of the Grand Old Party. Many never warmed up to Sen. John McCain and conservatives also split over a number of social issues. Considering the Democratic sweep of two government branches (and a possible complete future sweep as Supreme Court seats come up vacant), it’s obvious the GOP has some serious soul searching ahead. A number of Republicans I’ve spoken to have yielded to the ‘blame Bush’ mantra Democrats are so fond of. Whatever goes wrong—if your toast burns because you set the dial wrong—it’s Bush’s fault. Whatever the reasons, the party must restore itself. And six candidates want the honor of leading the GOP as Republican National Committee chair.

RNC chair battle in full swing as candidates vie for top spot

The battle for a new chairman for the Republican National Committee is in full swing, but it’s a battle that has been largely overlooked by traditional media.

C.)--GOPAC chairman Michael Steele spoke candidly on Monday about his goal to become chairman of the Republican National Committee. Explaining that his mother always told him if he wanted to do something he should “just get in there and do it,” he said he’s tired of hearing Republicans complaining. Steele summed up the GOP’s problems succinctly: lack of technology, lack of a message and lack of communications. “We’re running a 1980s playbook,” he added. Steele said he wants to see the party become more “21st century.” Steele's supporters are utilizing technology to get the word out.
