‘Medi-Scare’ works for Democrats who also targeted Medicare

Updated on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at 11:58AM by Registered CommenterKay B. Day, Editor

Bloggers and readers are engaged in a shouting match at present over Wisconsin congressman Paul Ryan’s ‘Path to Prosperity’ and Democrats’ refusal to pass a budget. “Medi-Scare” tactics—denigrating Ryan’s plan for the benefit of Democrats’ political gain—have even been blamed for the GOP loss in a special congressional election in New York. Never mind the fake Tea Party candidate who was actually a Democrat. Most pundits say that faker helped swing the election to the Democrat. Read about the New York candidate’s real political colors at Red State.

What’s worrisome is the propaganda being spewed, and in some cases, the outright advocacy to maintain the status quo in a program that will change whether Ryan’s plan were to be adopted anyway. Fact is the Democrats’ healthcare plan targeted Medicare too.

Pelosi’s healthcare scandal: Waivers affirm ‘all politics is local’

Remember how excited Rep. Nancy Pelosi was after Democrats snuck the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act through the back door? Pelosi made a rambling speech that sounded like something you’d hear at a PTA fundraiser. There’s a priceless moment when amid a sprinkle of giggles,  she quotes a favorite maxim of the late iconic liberal spender Tip O’Neill—“All politics is local.”

Pelosi’s speech is now history, but she surely affirmed O’Neill’s saying because nearly 20 percent of new ObamaCare waivers are chic businesses located in Pelosi’s home district. The Daily Caller did the math: “Of the 204 new Obamacare waivers President Barack Obama’s administration approved in April, 38 are for fancy eateries, hip nightclubs and decadent hotels in House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s Northern California district.”

Why don’t we just call out PPACA for what it is—a scandal?

Cain positions for recognition in GOP field of repeaters, newcomers for 2012

Democrats are probably salivating over the state of the Republican potential presidential candidate pool for 2012. Thus far there’s no candidate that fires up the populace like President Barack Obama did as a candidate in 2008.

Then again, this is a different time. Wall Street may be strong and big corporations may be gloating over record profits (some subsidized by US taxpayers). But Main Street is carrying an increasingly thinner wallet—gas prices, food prices, home energy prices and health insurance prices are up and will continue to go up as the dollar’s value declines in direct response to decisions at the federal level.

I’ve followed one presumed candidate, and every time I see him talk about policy and governance, he looks better to me. Herman Cain is already familiar to a number of conservatives, through his radio show and columns. The Georgia conservative has been criss-crossing the country, speaking and greeting in cities like Orlando, Concord, Des Moines, Chicago and numerous others. His high energy tour is paying off.

ObamaCare a jobs eraser

The Weekly Standard and The Daily Caller published excerpts of testimony from the House Budget Committee.  Congressional Budget Office director Doug Elmendorf responded to questions from committee chair Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) and Rep. John Campbell (R-Calif.) on Thursday.

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, often called ObamaCare, could legitimately be called a jobs eraser.

Imploding pro-ObamaCare judges' rulings

US District Court judges George Carem Steeh and Norman K. Moon declared the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act commonly called ObamaCare constitutional.

Steeh and Moon argued the federal government can force an individual to purchase health insurance. A key argument by both judges rests on the concept of cost-shifting. Few media have explored the argument; socialist progressives applauded it. However, both judges appear to have based their arguments on politics rather than reason.

Cuccinelli wants expedited SCOTUS review on PPACA lawsuit

Virginia attorney general Ken Cuccinelli wants the US Supreme Court to take up his state’s lawsuit challenging the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act immediately. Cuccinelli announced his decision in a public statement on Thursday. Should SCOTUS agree to expedite the case, states and the federal government will save money and avoid taking complicated, costly measures to comply with the unconstitutional law.

Easy option to repeal the job-vaporizing healthcare law

As expected, Democrats in the Senate used their slim majority to stop repeal of the job-vaporizing healthcare law, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. It’s worth noting most of these Democrats never read the bill they championed.

Colloquially the law is called ObamaCare; it should actually, as I pointed out on Facebook on Wednesday, be called PelosiCare. The Executive Branch didn’t write the bill, Congress did. There is in fact an easy option for repeal, although it might take a little more than a year to do so.
