Clinton’s words on weapons recalled as ‘Fast and Furious’ hearings held

Border Patrol agents often make their rounds alone. [Photo by James Tourtellotte, US CPB]
In March, 2009, Reuters said Sec. of State Hillary Clinton told media in Mexico City, “Our inability to prevent weapons from being illegally smuggled across the border to arm these criminals causes the death of police officers, soldiers and civilians.” She also said Americans’ “insatiable demand for illegal drugs fuels the drug trade.”

Clinton’s words proved prophetic when US Border Patrol agent Brian A. Terry was killed in December, 2010. Clinton has said nothing more since information about Fast and Furious broke. Sen. Grassley wants answers from USCIS about immigration benefits fraud

Progressives and right wingers often cloud the issue of immigration by painting a simple picture. Progressives push the idea of a simple migrant worker in search of the American dream. Right wingers push the idea of terrorists sneaking across the border to do us harm. Fact is there’s some truth in both straw men, but what most overlook is an issue high on a fiscal conservative’s list of concerns. Money.

Oprah bio raises question of $7.8 million GM gave for ‘Favorite Things’

Oprah Winfrey made headlines around the world in September, 2004, when she opened the new season of her talk show with a ‘Favorite Things’ segment. That day, each member of her studio audience received a new Pontiac G6—276 cars were given for a total value of $7.8 million. However, considering General Motors' financial performance in subsequent years, the  giveaway raises a question.
