Mr. President, was it lonely on the administration side of the Fiscal Cliff bargaining table?

By Wendy N. Powell

President Barack Obama allegedly won the biggest financial challenge of his political career, or did he? The post mortem reveals troubling circumstances yet to come. The increases in taxes will affect all Americans and potentially trigger a new recession with all effects not yet known.

Sandy relief bill an insult to victims of storm; House right to exercise caution

Followup to Pork goes wild in Sandy relief bill muddled by bureaucratic ineptitude

Coast Guard officers meet with representatives from an oil spill removal organization, to identify hazardous materials in Bayonne, N.J. left in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, Nov. 10, 2012. (U.S. Coast Guard photo by Petty Officer 3rd Class Tara Molle)Nothing brings out the inner Leftist like a good crisis. Fate certainly smiled on Obama when Hurricane Sandy rolled in, providing him a national forum he put to good use for his reelection.

Fate didn’t smile on the victims at all, and continues the same treatment when it comes to disaster relief.

House Speaker John Boehner is being assailed because the bill hasn’t been passed yet. But the bill described by one senator as the “vehicle” for disaster appropriations in 2013 is deliberately vague, downright puzzling and unnecessarily burdened with questionable spending.

Boehner responds to Democrats’ tax hike and power grab as 2014 races get underway

Did you know it’s already 2014? At least in the political world. Why else would President Barack Obama take to the campaign trail again?

On Friday, Obama went to a small business in Pennsylvania to push Item No. 1 on his “fiscal cliff” agenda—another tax hike on the upper middle class. Hopefully, that business will be able to keep its doors open through 4 more years of the economic disaster Democrats have helped create.

Speaker of the House John Boehner responded to Obama’s campaign message.

Krauthammer, other pundits err on Boehner response to Obama

When I read Speaker John Boehner’s response to President Barack Obama’s request about addressing a joint session of Congress on Wednesday, I felt the speaker handled it appropriately. Rather than yielding to partisan politics or trying for a political hit on the president, Boehner justified his rejection by citing protocol.

Protocol, for progressives in Congress, is a foreign language.

So I was surprised to hear conservatives like Charles Krauthammer and a number of other pundits suggest Boehner erred. Krauthammer told ‘Special Report’ on Fox News that Boehner’s letter was “probably ill-advised.”

Why?

Speaker Boehner explains Congress to Obama regarding Wednesday's calendar

Speaker John Boehner (R) declined to agree to President Barack Obama's request to address a joint session of Congress on Sept. 7.

Politico ran part of Boehner's letter to Obama:

"As you know, the House of Representatives and Senate are each required to adopt a Concurrent Resolution to allow for a Joint Session of Congress to receive the President. And as the Majority Leader announced more than a month ago, the House will not be in session until Wednesday, September 7, with votes at 6:30 that evening. With the significant amount of time – typically more than three hours – that is required to allow for a security sweep of the House Chamber before receiving a President, it is my recommendation that your address be held on the following evening, when we can ensure there will be no parliamentary or logistical impediments that might detract from your remarks."

Read the earlier story about Obama's request at National Conservative Examiner.

The president's request was so obviously politically motivated, it's hard to understand how he can advise us to put country above party and say that with a straight face.

Super Committee grows; fiscal conservative Toomey added by GOP

Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) named three progressives to the Super Committee on Tuesday, and six more names have been added by other leaders in Congress.

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) announced his picks at the majority leader’s House website. Boehner selected Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas), Dave Camp (R-Mich.) and Fred Upton (R-Mich.)

NPR said GOP Senate picks have also been announced: “On the Senate side, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has chosen Sens. Jon Kyl of Arizona, Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania and Rob Portman of Ohio to serve on the committee.”

Toomey is one of the soundest fiscal conservatives in the Senate.US Congress

Minority leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) hasn’t announced her selections yet, but the final three selectees will be as liberal if not more liberal than the Senate picks.

Debt fight proves U.S. needs more conservatives in the Senate

Sen. Harry Reid is still preening for the cameras, with legacy media only too eager to promote  his obstruction of anything the Republican controlled US House of Representatives puts forth. Reid sounds like a broken record, telling House conservatives to “compromise.”

The last thing on Reid’s mind is compromise. He’s still having trouble getting over losing control of the House in November, 2010. Of course, what legacy media omits from every narrative is that this problem was created by Democrats—they set no budget for more than 800 days, they voted down President Barack Obama’s budget and they could’ve set whatever debt ceiling their spendthrift hearts desired.

After all, Democrats  had absolute control of the federal government from the moment they won Congress in November, 2006 until November 2010, and Obama has been in the White House for three years.

Reid fabricates a no-tax-in-my-plan story for Democrat friendly media.
